shorter term - sealed magic the gathering hobbit set collector boxes that you can get hands on, longer 3-5 years sealed pokemon or star wars lego exclusives - my mate laughed at me when i said this to him 10 years ago when he had 30 grand coming his way and i said buy as many of these items as possible going for £330 each and they were at £1300 each just 4-5 years later.

this is HORRIBLE advice- especially with the LEGO stuff.

I made a tidy pocket reselling about a decade ago, but the market isn’t what it was, as LEGO quite rightly put measures in place to stop it being used so cynically.

So unless you’re buying OLD unopened sets (which cost a bomb) you’re throwing your money away.

Ear mark a set - I dunno - say jabbas sale barge and see you in 5 years to see who was right. I bet you a pint it will have gone up more than gold.

Mate, it's my job to know about these things- I'm promising you, the days of giant profits being made on (current) Lego sets are over. It's not a sensible investment.

Or just buy a global ETF fund that has ticked away at 9-10% on average since 1929? Set, forget and let compounding do the work.

You can legally invest up to £20,000 every tax year into a Stocks & Shares ISA entirely tax-free. VWRP, VUAG and VFEG are the 3 funds that will give you a US / INT exposure to a multitude of actively managed funds that hold thousands of stocks.

10,000 GBP invested into VUAG turns into 156,344 GBP compounded, if left untouched for 30 years.

This is the same advice myself and others have given in this thread.

Unless you're a professional investor, this is absolutely the route to go down.

No idea why people try to overcomplicate things or think its a minefield/lottery etc. It really isn't.

Note though - many of the global ETFs I've seen mentioned are ~70% US (which in turn is about 45% in the tech sector). VUAG is entirely US for example.

So you're not as diversified as you might think. I put the bulk of my money into ishares MSCI ACWI, which is still 50-60% US but has a much higher weighting to Europe, Japan and crucially EM. Going forward, having EM exposure is going to be crucial to long term returns.

Nah, mate- throw it all into the 19th version of a Lego X-Wing, created with shrinkflation at the forefront of it's spec and anti-profiteering measures not only built into production but packaging and promotion too.

It's simple, all you've got to do is pick out an "Ultimate Collector Series" set - no, honestly, I know *precisely* what I'm talking about, it's like printing money...

that's true. VUAG is the SP500, so obviously all US large caps. VWRL is 70% US, but VFEG is entirely comprised of emerging markets. You could swap that one out for EXUS which is a European large cap fund.

3 is a good mix without too much overlap.
