After our last PL campaign, it seemed like the majority on here wanted him to stay at Town but accepted that he wouldn’t after our relegation. One year on and after an unsuccessful season at Chelsea, reading the recent posts about him on here, it seems like the majority don’t want him back this season.
I have to say I don’t want him to return either. He looked like a partially sighted raging bull when I watched Chelsea last season, charging aimlessly around the pitch taking out opponents. Maybe his success with us was down to McKenna and our coaching staff but he has regressed significantly since then and we need far better this season.
‘Never go back’ is my motto as the second time is seldom as good as you remember the first time. |  |

OK, sorry, I was being a little facetious, but I will counter your point of him carrying the rest of the team with how many more goals would we have scored if he hadn't been so selfish? Also I honestly believe that he got away with not being sent off quite often, which would have made us look even worse.
A Chelsea fan friend of mine messaged me when they bought him, and I messaged him back saying I really didn't think he was worth the money, I think he may agree with me now. I really hope I'm wrong and Delap goes on to be a great striker, because it would be fantastic for England in the long run, but I just don't see it in him. So we'll just have to agree to disagree |
He's young, still learning at the top level and his decision-making needs improving, like so many top prospects at his age. Like you, I hope he continues to improve, although I doubt it will be with us. I fear that we can no longer afford him. |  | | |

My concern over Delap is as much centred upon fitness as ability. He had at least a couple of significant outages during the year at Chelsea.
Plus we need, IMO, someone with more Prem experience as our pricipal No. 9. Especially if we're investing a lot of money in them. |  |

If McKenna was still our manager then I think Delap could have been rejuvenated here again but with GON it's a bit more unknown, like starting from nearer scratch again.
We need an older experienced Premier League striker now to blend with Emersonn & Hirst but if none of the European competition bound clubs pick up Delap & his price drops then let's get him. |  | | |

Can you give me one name, a realistic target that would give us as much up front as Delap did in 24-25? If you’re expecting as good, let alone better than what he gave, you’re going to be very disappointed. He had a poor first season at Chelsea but you don’t get pretty much every premier league club and plenty of top European clubs wanting you to sign unless you’re an elite level footballer. No, I couldnt give you a name. But thats not my job, abd of course the word " realistic" is Towns potential problem with a lot of the players we are reportedly looking at. You cant tell.me theres not a better option out there. We just have identify him and try and persuade the player ( and hus agent), Ipswich is the place to cone to.
I think Delap would be very expensive now, and he wouldnt return here despite a section of the fan base wanting it, as he'd regard it ' as a step backwards'(I thought i saw reported a while ago, dont know if he said that or not), but i think in any job there is the belief that its not a good thing to go back.
I think we need a more experienced Striker . Our pool of strikers are either in experirnced or simply not good enough. So yes. We do need to find another striker.
I will however, like many others on here watch with interest to see how Liam does at his new club. My choice for him was always Newcastle. |  |

I agree with most of that. A return wouldn’t be bad for us at all imo (very unlikely though) but there does have to be someone out there who could be better for us. Very obviously the problem is finding them. Given how analytics is now such a huge part of the game and thousands of players can be filtered in seconds with AI, I wonder if finding such an elusive gem is becoming much harder? Everyone’s going to have the capability to know about all professional players. |  |
