| Its just summer though, and it was hot in 1976........ on 18:55 - Jul 29 by Swansea_Blue | Here we go: See the alternating warm and cold patches in the Northern mid-latitudes?
That's the imprint of a quasi-stationary Rossby wave (i.e. oscillations in the jet stream).
It's rare to see it so clearly in a monthly-average temperature map. — Robert Rohde (@rarohde.bsky.social) 2026-07-24T05:57:24.975Z |
Did a case study on the impacts of a certain type of wave circulation pattern, known as wavenumber-5 which is five troughs and highs spread around the northern hemisphere causing simultaneous chaos. These are the types of events that could lead to breadbasket failures. We really are gaining an understanding of the scale of cascading risks and compounding impacts with flash droughts, wildfires and even economists starting to agree with the idea that climate change might reduce productivity - all their other stuff is still daft on climate change.

| Its just summer though, and it was hot in 1976........ on 20:39 - Jul 29 by BloomBlue | To be fair global warming was really bad in 1976, my ford escort failed because of the heat. The mechanic even told me the fault was caused by global warming. Also not forgetting 1959 was another bad year for global warming, I remember sweating my nuts off a few times that summer. 1976 was not global warming it was a freak summer. What we are seeing now is continually hotter spells in summer and spring (!), winters that barely exist here etc. While other places such as parts of Asia have just had record breaking floods, and it goes on. I call it climate change, not global warming. Some will continue to deny, well good luck to them, I possibly won't be around to see the worst of it. | | | |

Can I respectfully ask you a serious question Benters, all joking and all prejudice aside: Do you accept that increasing human waste gas emissions into the atmosphere have created a situation where we are increasingly affecting the overall climate of the planet, and consequently are causing a big increase in severe weather occurrences? I do ask that without any side at all, hoping for a straight answer, but accepting if you don't want to answer it.
