Some of the takes on here are absolutely ridiculous and clearly show a lack of knowledge or understanding of the current state of play in football
Strikers are at an absolute premium at the moment. We've just paid £20m for someone with potential! Whilst Hirst scored 11 last season despite being in and out of the side. That's as many as Lankshear and a better minutes per goal ratio
Whilst he wasn't at his best he still managed a decent return and can be relied on to score goals at championship level. £7m -£10m is easily the going rate for a proven championship striker and I have no doubt it'll be a lower fee with plenty of add-ons.
He's been an excellent servant to the club and I'd be sad to see him go. Can't imagine who else many championship clubs would be signing for that sort of amount, unless they had the scouting network to go out and find an absolute bargain somewhere else |  | | |

This could be a good move for all parties. An acceptable fee for us, Stoke get a striker with a proven track record in the Championship, Hirst can get settled somewhere and hopefully regain some of the confidence that was lacking in his play last season. He would go with our best wishes and huge thanks for his contribution over the last 3.5 seasons, nobody who was at Barnsley will forget his solo goal any time soon. |  | | |

Pre season last year George looked like he was going to get 20 plus that season.
Could go either way with him might get 10, 20 or 25 in the championship. On his day a top championship striker, unfortunately often progress and form interrupted by injury. |  |
