Does anyone who watches the U21s know what happened to Gerrard Buabo?

I remember he played against QPR in our 23/24 promotion season, but hasn't been anywhere near the first team squad since.

He's 21 now and KMc had high hopes for him, but think injuries may have restricted his progress.

Don't know. Young players come and go.

Was there more coverage / interest towards the academy in the past from TWTD / EADT ? Too big a gap between the youth and First Team now? Is the women's team now more important than the 21's?

I've lost interest as we're more likely to buy in young players than grow them.

I have also wondered about Buabo. He made a first team debut on 20/9/22 and would technically be our fourth longest serving "first team" player (behind Humphreys, Walton and Davis) if, as expected, Wes's move is confirmed.

The only current reference to him is that he is still currently listed as an U21 player on the ITFC website. He has not to my knowledge been released due to the expiry of his contract, so I really don't know. A bit of a mystery.

He's just had constant injuries, I think he may still be at the club but unsure if he is under contract - either way it's just not going to happen for him here, and likely anywhere sadly.

In 25/26 he made 2 sub appearances for the U21s, in 24/25 he made 1 start and 2 sub appearances [and scored twice!] for them

Even in 23/24 where he made a few 1st team sub appearances he only made 8 starts and 2 sub appearances for the 21s

So just spent last 3 seasons injured basically

Thanks ITFCjoe. I thought it was something along those lines, as I knew he has been plagued by quite serious injuries. I will keep an eye out when ITFC update their team squads on the official website. I would be surprised if he will still be listed as part of the forthcoming 2026/27 squad.

Saw him at a 16/17 year old leading the line for Bury Town a few times. A real handful.

Just adds further to how there is so much to making it as a pro footballer, you need to have the talent to begin with, the attitude and work ethic to survive the process and then a body that will cope with the high rigours of the modern game from a very young age. You can be the best at two of the three and still not be able to make it as a pro.

No idea when I began here, was a very long time ago. Previously known as Spirit_of_81. Love cheese, hate the colour of it, this is why it requires some blue in it.
