I quite like many of the other measures on traffic which impact my regular commute walking between London Bridge and Bishopsgate. Wider footpaths, re-routed private cars, fewer heavy impact vehicles, electric buses.

I think the concerns in outer London boroughs regarding transport infrastructure and the cost to those whose businesses were impacted was legitimate though. So too was the anticipated impact on low earners in particular. Many studies have highlighted this significant strain.

A Financial Services commuter benefits far more than a care worker in outer London driving a non-compliant car.

There was certainly lots of concern from groups representing lower paid workers and un-paid carers.

I am pointing out that concerns were legitimate given the change and they came from a mix of groups.

There was also a scrappage scheme that paid you £2,000 to scrap a non-compliant vehicle My father in law did this with a diesel Ford Focus that was only worth £500 at most, so I imagine the number of people that were negatively impacted was tiny.

I have rather (sadly) spent some of lunchtime reading how the study was adjusted for Covid traffic, the move to EVs and a host of other factors.

I find these studies, their data and conclusions interesting.
