Either seen as a better chance of survival as Coventry or worse. See Sky odds below: Hull - 1/8 Ipswich - 8/11 Coventry - 5/6 Sunderland - 7/2 Fulham - 5/1 Crystal Palace - 11/2 Newcastle - 8/1 Leeds -9/1

| So the relegation betting odds on 12:17 - Aug 20 with 1563 views | dirtyboy | I just don't get the Sunderland one. I know they'll have fixture pile up later and outperformed their metrics by some distance last season, but there's obviously method to how they went about it and did better than a number of established teams. They've got some serious quality in their team and Xhaka and Diarra are very good in the middle of the park. I just don't see them getting pulled into it. Had Forest not got Glasner, i'd have put a small question mark over them, but he'll last the season no problems and have them playing well. Still say Palace and Fulham 'could' be the ones dragged in with us, Hull and Coventry, but they're still good teams. | | | |

They were shocking last half of the season, can't see that changing but they may just stay up. Fulham the ones to go.

Hopefully you'll understand better Saturday evening why sunderland are tipped to struggle Last season 4th lowest scorers, solid defensively but 2nd season everyone will know more about them The European games will take their toll as we've seen with more established sides and as we founf out ourselves in 2002

Their expected metrics were way below what they achieved - it wasn't even close. They would have been relegated on the metrics, just ahead of Wolves. It will be said that what matters is points on the board, not what the stats said, and that is undeniably true. However, outperforming the metrics by that margin rarely carries on forever. So far they have not strengthened over the summer, and have the added strain of Europe, which increases fatigue and the risk of a key injury. I've said before that I think they will struggle, and are a relegation candidate. I stand by that.

Yes I’d have put Fulham more likely for relegation than Sunderland; maybe even Palace. I do think Sunderland will struggle with the Europe fixture congestion. But I do worry they’ll start the season strongly as they are a settled side. Hopefully Florentino and Lukic can mark Xhaka out of the game. We’ll know a lot more come 5pm Saturday. It depends how well they cope with Thursday night games followed by Sunday games, these have been traditionally difficult for many clubs.

Hull could get royally battered: It was one of the bigger statistical overperformances in the Championship. Final position: 6th, 73 points, enough for the playoffs. Expected points: only 53.1, according to Opta-based data cited by The Guardian. That is a huge +19.9-point overperformance — roughly 37% more points than the underlying model expected. Goals: 70 scored, 66 conceded, for only +4 goal difference. Their defensive record was particularly weak: 66 conceded, the fourth-highest total in the Championship.

Very much so. I posted shortly after the season ended that based on the expected metrics, we would have finished top by 2 points (partially due to us being slightly off the expected results, but Coventry significantly outperforming their expected) and Hull would have been relegated, 2nd from bottom.

I hope I do, and I hope it's in our favour. I'm absolutely a numbers man and they don't tend to lie, but you do get outliers and when it's consistent over a full season, I tend to wonder why as opposed to suggesting the numbers should still converge. I do agree on the European element to an extent, but also note they were absolutely hammered by AFCON and still with their squad, only lost 1 game during that period, so they can cope.

I thought Hull were pretty poor last season when I saw them, both games against us and a number of other ones too. Really surprised they made the playoffs let alone won them. To their credit and Jakirovic's credit they did what they did reasonably well, no ego about them and tactically he showed he's very astute to grind out points from games. They had no right to finish in the top 6, even most Hull fans had them tipped to be much nearer the bottom than top. Really fear for them this season, I don't think they've recruited very well either.
