If McAteer moves on I think it'll be because O'Neill thinks Egeli, Philogene, Clarke and Maeda can do a better job than him on the right

Stuart Watson has within the last hour posted.

"Ipswich Town wingers Jack Clarke and Kasey McAteer are not available ahead of the transfer window closing the EADT and Ipswich Star understands."

I guess he means not available to other clubs rather than not available for selection as we're looking to move them on.

Watson says this later in the article. Indeed, he said a few weeks ago that McAteer was not on his way out.

"We understand that neither player is available ahead of the transfer window closing at 11pm next Tuesday, with Gary O'Neil seeing them both very much part of his plans."

The signings of Szmodics, McAteer and Ogbene for a combined £29M are the main reason why financially we desperately needed promotion last season.

We'll have to accept a massive loss on all 3 players which we can afford to do as a PL club, but that loss would have been much harder to swallow in the Championship.

At least we managed to claw back just over half of the Muric transfer fee.

Can't win them all though. Muric £10m, Ogbene £8m, Szmodics £9m, McAteer £12m.

£6m back for Muric, probably £5m combined for Ogbene and Szmodics when all said and done. Imagine we'd get £8m for McAteer.

£20m loss in real terms. Not far off what we trousered on Delap. We've also made good money on Broadhead, Omari, Hirst, Clarke. Probably will on Taylor and Mehmeti too. Davis would make a tidy profit.

Can't win them all, these investors look at it like a portfolio of shares. Just got to look at the total and if the increase in squad value is greater than the net spend over time you're getting more right than wrong. In other words, we could sell them all and get every penny spent on transfers back since GC took over.

They also play their part in generating us £400m+ of revenue over 3 years, jumping 2 divisions, and probably 20x increase in the value of the club.
