7 Up is a British documentary series that began in 1964 on ITV, following 14 children aged seven and revisiting them every seven years. It is considered one of the most influential documentary projects ever made.
I first came across it in the 1980s and have followed it ever since because it is very compelling.
This will be the last ever series but here is a snippet featuring Neil who started as a bubbly 7 year old but later faced various struggles.
I first saw it in Primary school where our class all sat on the floor cross legged to watch a little black and white tv. It was the first one for 7 year olds and I think it had only been filmed the previous year, so a snapshot of our own lives. It was very forward thinking for schools to show it at the time (the only other time I remember watching a TV at school was when we were 11 and had to watch a programme showing us 'The Facts Of Life'!!
I watch every 7 years as each new series is released. It's interesting looking back as it mirrors aspects of my own life and those around me in each era. Life was so much simpler then, but that's just my take!

But I didn't catch on to the series until the 1980s.
Splendid. I kind of assumed there would be no more of them due to the passing of Michael Apted a few years ago.
Would kind of be interesting to start a new batch of 7 year old's following this but I guess the climate has changed so much now. There was an innocence with the original participants, no media narratives, branding, online backlashes etc. Much more vulnerability now.
I remember watching the first 4 episodes of this back in sixth form in the late eighties and becoming hooked on it. Sad to see it end shocked to see they’re now 70. Especially looking forward to seeing the old snippets from the first season with the lad in the Yorkshire Dales with his duffel coat and wellies in the snow and the kid who was skipping along the road as young kids used to Looking forward to watching it
