There’s been a lot of discussion about how our defence looks poor etc, however I would suggest that the quality of defending for all the teams we have played so far has not been significantly better, maybe Liverpool aside.

The Palace defending yesterday was appalling, as was the Utd defending a couple of weeks back. Seems to me that our defence is not significantly worse than what we have played so far - it maybe that the quality of forward play is the key differential and the fact we are better able to create more chances and with the likes of Emersonn, Flemming and currently Davis are hitting the net more will be the crucial difference this season.

Do you think the attacking capabilities of all Premier League clubs is stronger than ever, top to bottom? And counter attacking is becoming a more dominant tactic this season it seems.

I think any defence that can keep the door shut this season consistently is a cut above, so we’re doing ‘ok’ in that department I’d say. Not a ‘distinction’, but definitely a solid pass so far.

It's probably why Hull are doing so well. They seem to have specialised in that area.

The Fulham mgr was asked on BBC London if he had been working more with the defence this week given they didn't concede a goal at Liverpool, he basically replied no, but had been working with midfield and forwards to improve their defence duties. In other words you defend as a team

I heard Cundy calling Hull anti-football or something to that extent last night on TalkSport, ultimately though, they’ve mastered being hard to beat and score on the counter. Those ingredients could lead to survival and allow them to develop into Acun’s (the owner) goal of being a club like Brentford or Brighton.

Certainly proving to be an interesting season across the league so far, and good to see us scoring and getting points on the board.

You do, but no excuse for not picking players up, which we are shocking at!

Think that's spot on Guthers.

Better players but essentially the same approach as last season.

25% possession? Who cares? Keep the opposition out and be clinical with any chances that come their way.

Wouldn't be my go to as a watch but I'm sure Hull fans are loving it.

See Forest of a season ago or so.

Solid but quick on the counter.

Which is what I think we are striving to do, including the summer's recruitment. We have harrying, pressing forwards in Maeda, Clarke, Fatawu and Enciso. We have what is designed to be a strong midfield. The actual defenders are really the last line for when attacks break right through.

It's not working smoothly yet, but enough to win some games. Half the sample so far has been against two of the best teams in the division and they are still getting to know each other, so still a bit difficult to judge its effectiveness overall.

Yes, Town are a work in progress, but that's far less concerning with 2 wins from the first 4 games. We have plenty of decent players, an attacking threat & a far better bench than 2 years ago. Hopefully O'Neill will make small tweaks.

Not even sure we need much in the way of tweaking, just better execution and more instinctive understanding between players. Which will come with practice and games.

Fortunately, our good start to the season gives some leeway to achieve that.
