Was our inability to play out from the back. I noticed this especially in the first half as I was position adjacent to our penalty area.
Walton would attempt to make a 45 degree pass to Diop. Unfortunately, 9 times out of 10 the pass would go 30 degrees, forcing Diop to take a step back, and at times completely face the wrong direction. This was taken advantage by the Everton forwards who pressed very quickly. Diop would either play it back hastily to Walton, who under pressure would then boot it into touch or to an Everton player or Diop would do the same.
We don't have Hladky to pass out. Or Woolfy, Morsy and Clarke who were very comfirable on the ball. We just seem to invite too much pressure on ourselves. |  |

A couple of Dutch mates of mine were adamant in the summer we were sending our best keeper out on loan to Valencia. Rate KVO very highly. He looked excellent in pre-season. Mad we let him go out. We know Walton/Palmer aren't good enough for the level. And Scherpen has started very slowly. We've put ourselves in a bit of a hole in that position now. [Post edited 21 Sep 11:20]

Watched the replay this morning. Kept an eye on Walton’s distribution and it was woeful unfortunately. Hopefully something they can work on in the next 3 weeks. Greaves gives a better option in the CD roles for a good pass.
Not sure what we can really do here as not blessed with lots of options. |
If Walton has'nt sorted out his distribution feet at his age, I don't think another 3 weeks is going to make much difference. |  |

This, I don’t think it helped having DOS on the left-side either, as he certainly isn’t as comfortable receiving the ball from Walton and opening up on his left foot. I remember a manager previously being adamant the left-sided centre back needs to be left footed for this exact reason.
I also noticed Walton slowing the game down, which was infuriating. I noticed DOS telling him to slow it down on occasions, and assume it’s also instructed from GON, but we struggled to play through them and break them down, I thought we could have done with Walton releasing the ball earlier to get us going whilst Everton players were out of position, but what do I know? | | | |

Just to say, we aren't alone in this issue this season.
About 5 goals over the weekend were from poor passing/p*ssing around with it at the back and getting picked off.
It appears a few teams are over complicating matters when they don't have the players to execute it. |  | | |
