| January window on 18:16 - Oct 11 by WolfieAtTheBack | With the right offers we could 'trade' in January for 60 - 80 m selling out of favour players and/or players that cannot make the step up. That is 3 - 4 new potential Outtara's |
Think a lot will depend on chances of staying up and where we are in table as to how much we'll spend. Not sure we have £70m worth of players to trade but I think unless loads of injuries we only get 1 or 2 in. I'd like to see a settled squad moving forward with real quality replacements like Palacios and Outtara in other positions as mentioned previously.

Agree with this. Think the recruitment team will be working on several different scenarios. If, by the end of the year we have 20+ points we’re likely to trade quite heavily to ensure we stay up. Less than 20 points and it’s unlikely we’d gamble loads to stay up. Lot less than 20 we’re likely to stick with what we have or cash in on someone like Palacios. Lot more than 20 then we’ll definitely gamble to bring in some cast iron replacements.

Probably not all in January, but I think all 6 will be gone if we stay up. Think Matusiwa might go abroad somewhere in search of more game time. If we bring 2 or 3 in during the Jan window I would like another #10, we're short beyond Enciso. Ideally someone who can play off the right as well, kills 2 birds etc. Central defender too. Diop and O'Shea are forming a nice partnership, but not sure Greaves is premier league quality and even less sure Kipre is. I don't think we need a keeper, would rather bring Van Oevelen back and roll with Walton, Scherpen and him. He looked good in pre season.

| January window on 13:56 - Oct 11 by Guthrum | I think we need to wait a bit longer to see how things pan out, who grows into the season, who gets injured, etc. Also our league position with a few more games under the belt. Probably a decision to be taken at the end of November. Bear in mind that anyone brought in will have to be matched by a player leaving (unless U21). The only significant gap in coverage, for me, is at LB, if anything happened to Davis. Ouattara was the first in line, but he has now found a full-time berth at RB. Pretty sure we have the money for one or two more players of decent standard if we need them. But not to go mad with loads. |
100% Guthers. It’s too early to say where we need to strengthen, and such chatter on social media can only serve to unsettle players if they look. We have only just promoted Walton and Ouattara to the PL starting 11, and need to let them grow into this team. The signs are really very positive atm, let’s back the players we have and give them until Christmas to show what they can do. Left back cover is the only obvious gap right now.

| January window on 12:34 - Oct 11 by TRUE_BLUE123 | Another Fatawu like right winger. Noted how GO spoke about not having a direct replacement out there who is a natural right sider who can go 1v1. Maeda did a valiant job yesterday but if we can get someone more comfortable out there it would be great. |
Yes, I agree. I think given that he's turning to playing Maeda out of position, it may well be time for McAteer to move on. Curious curious purchase that one, for the money. If we still had the legend that is Wesley Burns, I think most of us would trust him more, and he's currently mid table in League One.

| January window on 16:42 - Oct 11 by Nutkins_Return | Jan is a funny old window so some may be loans. Potentially with obligations and also due to wages etc. Mcateer is still young with improvement in him and may be preferred rather than a big loss on what we paid. Also whilst not the plan, some of these players would be assets in the champ and know the club so would be useful rather than complete re-build. If the fees are right though they can be moved on perm. |
I can't believe people are talking about jettisoning Jaden and keeping McAteer. Bonkers. Egeli has impressed so far this season. If Maeda and him don't mind covering for Fatawu, then we're pretty well covered at RW and in all other positions. I wouldn't mind if we just offloaded some squad players in Jan to keep the morale high and let the remaining ones bond and grow together. [Post edited 13 Oct 14:47]

I stand by McAteer as a signing being fine...he did fine. The fee is still the mental bit. If we had signed him for £3-4 mil it was just a perfectly reasonable signing and he did ok as a squad man. A little disappointing still maybe. I think we partly think there is a lot more growth in him because if the fee and McKenna signed it off. I think the reality is he had a couple of really good showing against us and McKenna saw the potential but reality is he is quite limited. I think he has kicked on to being a good Champ player. He'd be an accomplished West Brom winger. I like him. Good energy, passion for the game. But he's not at the level and won't establish himself in the prem (I would love to see him prove me wrong!)
