Assuming we will look to get 1 or 2 in what are the positions you would like us to target. For me there are no obvious weak links.
Also, how much headroom are we still likely to have?

Goalkeeper and LCB, sadly

Fullback cover is probably all we need, I think. Possibly another CB as cover too.

Good work by Philogene...... GREAT WORK BY PHILOGENE!!!

I was very twitchy about our defence but relatively becalmed by Ouattara's presence allowing DOS to move to the middle. I wouldn't say no to someone else coming in to bolster that area of the field though. All it takes is an injury. And we are light on cover for Leif still.

The goalkeeper situation continues to be an unsettling one. Really don't want to see us having to get another one in but we will have to see how that goes. Hopefully, Walton stays in now as that would mean he has done well there.

Midfield? Probably our strongest area.

Attack? Again, so far so good but we don't know who will be firing/fit come Jan.

We still have some loans to use if we want to don't we?

Think it might well be a case of moving fringe players on first and then replacing them with far better players in that position.

January window on 12:34 - Oct 11 with 2146 viewsTRUE_BLUE123

Another Fatawu like right winger. Noted how GO spoke about not having a direct replacement out there who is a natural right sider who can go 1v1.

Maeda did a valiant job yesterday but if we can get someone more comfortable out there it would be great.

We keep leaking goals so probably another centre back

We also need to move players on like Taylor, Kipre etc

An upgrade on Kipre would be good. Plus one more attacking player, maybe someone that has 10 as his best position (incase Enciso gets injured and also just to have competition)

I would still like a more experienced striker, I mentioned Icardi ages ago but he is pretty bonkers. I thought he would team up well with Pala.

We need to move on the fringe players as well to get some squad space for the next summer window as well as balance the sheet.

Players out in Jan on permanent deals - Mehmeti, Taylor, McAteer, Jaden and Nunez.

CB & RW. We’ll presumably move on several, including Mehmeti, McAteer, Palmer, Kipre

I think we need to wait a bit longer to see how things pan out, who grows into the season, who gets injured, etc. Also our league position with a few more games under the belt. Probably a decision to be taken at the end of November.

Bear in mind that anyone brought in will have to be matched by a player leaving (unless U21).

The only significant gap in coverage, for me, is at LB, if anything happened to Davis. Ouattara was the first in line, but he has now found a full-time berth at RB.

Pretty sure we have the money for one or two more players of decent standard if we need them. But not to go mad with loads.

Left sided CB upgrade for Kipre and Kipre needs and deserves to go and be first choice in a top 10 champ side

RW competition for Fatawu. Mcateer out on loan.

LB cover.

Out:
Kipre
Mcateer (Loan)
J Taylor (perm or loan)
Mehmeti (Loan or big fee perm)

I can certainly see far more outs than ins. We need the equivalent of a barber's trim and tidy up in Jan and upgrade on a couple that go out.

I agree that we need to wait and see about injuries etc, but I actually think the outs take care of themselves all being equal. As others have said kipre, Palmer, mehmeti, Mcateer, Taylor all look the ones likely due for an upgrade. Kipre for a very good defender would certainly be a huge upgrade as would Mcateer for a bombarding right winger if that suited. Taylor or possibly Mehmeti for a left back could balance us out, and even the much more suitable but still maybe lacking Akpom could be upgraded for a more cut throat attacker, but that would be being very spoilt!

Either way it's nice to be thinking of our least good players to upgrade, rather than any number of new players that haven't worked out.

No change to goalkeepers.

Left back back up probably needed, also we can shuffle Ouatarra about if needed.

Furlong and Kipre could be moved on. Think Greaves stays as he can cover left back and left centre back.

We have three definite midfielders in Lukic, Palacios and Florentino. Matusiwa hasn't yet featured due to injury, but he'd be the one to upgrade (which is insane to say after last season). Taylor to go to a Championship team.

Wingers are interesting. Maeda and Fatawu definitely. I've been quietly impressed with Clarke. Macateer to go. Mehmeti to go (if we can actually get him out the door). Walle Egeli looks like a loan would benefit, although looked decent yesterday. Philogene is an interesting one. Anything about 20 million and I'd take it.

Strikers would be Akpom to go, but he's looked a good, physical bench option.

And we don't know if offers will come in for someone like Palacios for silly money, which then changes the picture even more.

Can't believe I'm talking about some of our good performers last year potentially being gine by Feb! What a time to be an Ipswich fan.

No more loans. These players are never going to play for us week in week out, they are no where near the level and financially we need to recoup too.

I always think if an offer comes in for Jaden of 25m plus then take it, dip back into the European markets and come away with another gem.

Not sure he is a PL player, he is a good player of course, don't get me wrong but this is probably as far as he will develop.

I don't profess to know the ins and outs, but aren't loans technically better than a massive loss in the finances? If we lost £10 million on Mcateer we'd have to write it all off in one, whereas amortize the transfer again and write it off over longer whilst getting a loan fee and it works out better?

Really not sure how that works, if we can move the players on then let's do that I sense is best practice.

All smoke and mirrors in accounts innit. A 15 million transfer fee over 5 yrs can be written off at 3m a year off your budget, but sell them for £5m(over 5 yrs) and that £10m loss hits in one accounts. Maybe, I think, possibly?!

Jan is a funny old window so some may be loans. Potentially with obligations and also due to wages etc.

Mcateer is still young with improvement in him and may be preferred rather than a big loss on what we paid.

Also whilst not the plan, some of these players would be assets in the champ and know the club so would be useful rather than complete re-build. If the fees are right though they can be moved on perm.

Think we're pretty maxed out FFP wise so likely would need to sell a Taylor & Memheti to fund some cash. I guess it would depend on any key injuries.

If we stay up a better CD, RW and CF and keep hold of what our starting/finishing 16.

All the SCR estimates suggest that we still have good headroom to make more signings in the January window if we want to, without selling. We would, however, have to sell or loan out players unless we brought U21s in to have room in the 25 man squad.

With the right offers we could 'trade' in January for 60 - 80 m selling out of favour players and/or players that cannot make the step up.

That is 3 - 4 new potential Outtara's
