Agree, I don't want to get too carried away with the start and would take 17th now tbh but yes at least so far it looks like we might whereas last time it never felt like we had a chance.

| RE-hash of my road to survival on 17:49 - Oct 13 with 908 views | Joey_Joe_Joe_Junior | I think simplifying it now that we have that many wins on the board. Can we find 9/10 wins out of 32 games? That would have us on 36 or 39 points, you'd have to think we would have enough draws in there to get up to 45 then. Win 1 in 3 games until the end of the season would guarantee it, you'd think. What is key is our points tally in early January at the halfway point, real chance to give ourselves a buffer. Must take advantage against non-CL European sides at home in 3 game weeks for those teams. Forest at home is the next target for at least a draw. My biggest concern is lack of clean sheets and for me still the goalkeeping position. I think we will get better and better if we keep key players fit. I can foresee a bad winter spell so I want to really keep the foot on the gas before Christmas. | |

Agree with all your comments but also only winning in jury time is a concern too.

Yeah, that won't happen every week, but Sunderland was very good at it last year and it served them well. Every win is absolutely huge, if we can get to 8 or so before Christmas, we will stay up. That should be the target really, 4-5 more wins before the end of the calendar year. It just feels lady luck might be with us a little more this time, Palace game being a decent example. Not to take anything away from our start.

If we could get 8 wins by xmas then we are almost certainly going to stay up. I just feel whilst we have rode our luck at times this team is much stringer, fitter and hungrier as well as getting the rub of the green something we never got last time. Home form will be the difference for us hopefully this time around.

Why is winning in injury time a concern? A goal in the 92nd minute isn’t more fortunate or lucky than scoring in the second or fifth minute.
