Ashworth leaving his England post for Brighton is interesting 11:00 - Sep 26 with 640 views | davblue | On the face of it you have to say he's done a decent job with England getting to the semi's and the under age groups being successful but has he really done well? Have his ideas really made an impact yet, having been in the job for the last 6 years? For example has the current crop of under 18's u21's really had the benefit from what he's put in place technically? They would have been 12 by the point he got the job, you assume that before he's put anything in place, it would have been a year or so after. The next groups is where we should see what impact he's had and if there's any lasting impact going forward with his ideas. This is the man who also appointed his best man for the U21 job, who's footballing style has been pumping it long and totally goes against the FA's playing philosophy on their website. In possession: "A possession-based approach played through the three-thirds of the pitch Quality passing and intelligent movement and support off the ball Penetrative, incisive and varied attacking play, allied to good finishing Counter-attacking whenever opportunities arise Out of possession: A tactical approach to defending, in which all players contribute A controlled, calculated and assertive approach when and where necessary" Maybe im being harsh and undervaluing what his done, but it feels like he has benefited from a good crop coming through that haven't necessarily been of his making and the World Cup semi, so is striking while the iron is hot.
Ashworth leaving his England post for Brighton is interesting on 11:09 - Sep 26 with 605 views | itfcjoe | I think it's difficult to know how good a job he has done at the moment, it will become more obvious in times. There are clear highlights like the youngsters performances in tournaments, and there are clear issues like you mention with Boothroyd and teams at other levels. How much credit can Ashworth and The FA take for clubs like Chelsea, Man City and the like producing fantastic youth internationals like Foden, Sancho, Hudson-Odoi, Brewster and 3 dozen others. The success of the England youth teams is built off the back of the players being produced by the clubs. He has also benefitted from being the man in charge when St Georges Park opened and being able to get all the squads there together BUT..... The FA has been a shambles for a number of years before Ashworth came in. He has managed to get it moving in the right direction. Will it go back to too many chiefs and not enough indians after he has gone and go backwards? He was linked with Man U a few years back and now has the Brighton job which may be telling. Overall, I'd say he has done a good jib getting the FA more together and heading forwards - but can't be seen to have done an excellent job when he is just benefitting from the PLs policy with regards to the original academy stuff set up by howard Wilkinson and latterly EPPP.

Ashworth leaving his England post for Brighton is interesting on 11:44 - Sep 26 with 541 views | Marshalls_Mullet | It's hard to say really. Most of what he has tried to implement just reflects the evolution of football. I think he also benefits from vast improvement in clubs academies and more coaching time etc that the clubs get with their young players.
