Great move from Town to get rid of Milne, great move from ME. Hopefully replaced by DoF?

If we can get things right on the pitch we will be a good club again.

If we can mature these young players, we will be one hell of a positive place!

Positivity is running through my blood right now

As per the other thread, Milne had nothing really to do with the football side of the club, his role was around the business side of things.

That and we kind of have a DoF now in O'Neill.

DoF (if we had one, tho O'Neill probably is de facto) runs the football side, MD runs the non-football side. The public figurehead in the Ipswich setup is the Manager.

The MD is responsible for running the business side of things, not the football and it's not a role for someone to simply be a figurehead

Genuine question: who else is left on the non-footballing side who could be either internally promoted to that role. Or similarly anyone else left who could leave.

I have to be honest. I'm not sure what Lee O'Neil does?

This is why people who want us to be relegated are idiots. People at the club will lose their jobs if we drop down. We may be relegated anyway, but willing it to happen with the knowledge that normal people will lose their livelihoods is a bit of a scumbag move imo.

Not saying you want us to be relegated, Frimmers, more highlighting the loss of non-playing staff were the worst to happen.

Who is willing us to go down?

And I don't think anyone supposedly "willing" Town to go down is doing so with the thought process of this "scumbag" move you suggest.

DoF-lite, by the sounds of it. Overseeing the football side of the club, ensuring integration through all its layers, but not having responsibility for transfers (that being handled between the Manager and Evans).

There have been plenty on here who want us to go down, rebuild and come back up. We've heard all about how the sister-botherers et al have been rejuvenated after a spell in L1.

I'm merely suggesting that those people should think about the effects of relegation on normal members of staff at the club.

People who want to rebuild is suggesting so with pure intention of rebuilding Ipswich from the state we're in right now, and developing youth team products into the first team.

Your post is nonsense.

I dont think ANYONE has said they WANT us to go down.

I think the rebuild argument is people trying to find a positive IF / WHEN we do go down, rather than WANTING us to go down.

Can youth products not be developed and introduced at Championship level then?

It seems to have worked ok in the past, but now clubs have to drop down to lower leagues in order for that to happen?

A few people were stating last season they thought it'd be better for us to go down and rebuild than to remain "stagnating" in the Championship.

To the extent Luke Chambers thought it worth commenting on, in March 2018:

Chambers: Relegation a Positive? Baffling 12th Mar 2018 19:22
Skipper Luke Chambers has dismissed the notion that Town could eventually end up better off if they were relegated to League One, as Southampton were in 2010 before recovering, rebuilding and going on to reach the Premier League. 30

I would have no issue with blooding youth team players in the championship, but it isn't my job on the line. Think Lambert would probably feel more trust upon putting the youth in League 1 than Championship. But that's just imo.

DoF (if we had one, tho O'Neill probably is de facto) runs the football side, MD runs the non-football side. The public figurehead in the Ipswich setup is the Manager.

In defence of Mr.Town from some of the bullying here, the club itself has said that the reason Ian Milne is off is that the current manager has gone a different route with Lee O'Neil stepping in, and Milne was always going to leave due to that appointment.

“However with a new manager recently appointed and Lee O’Neill taking on a wider role across the club as general manager football operations, it feels appropriate that we bring Ian’s departure forward."

You don't just get shot of someone from their role like that and leave big gaps in an organisation, there had to be some overlap and the new MD will likely have the job description you have pointed out separate from O'Neils role. That means Milne did have some influence in the footballing areas, as we know he did when it came to some of the transfer business so to shout down Mr. Town here is a touch unfair, although commonplace with anyone without the TWTD orthodox view everything is awesome view on here.

It's time to make the best of it.
