One reason for the disparity in A Levels 09:01 - Aug 14 with 1285 views | bluelagos | Reading that the downgrading (standardisation) of A Levels, which sort to remove teacher bias in assessing their pupils, was only applied to classes of over 15 pupils. Thus many private schools, with smaller class sizes didnt have the same rigorous review and grade drops applied to many state schools. If true, this isnt going to go away is it? Reinforcing the advantage of private educated children...genuinely lost for words how anyone could defend these twunts. I don't believe it is cos they are nasty. They are simply put, inept. One reason for the disparity in A Levels on 09:02 - Aug 14 with 1275 views | Keno | I know of pupils in a local private with small classes who have had their A levels down graded 1 and even 2 grades so I'm not sure that is correct

So if there was only 1 pupil, and they didnt use the teacher assessment, they could only have used the previous results for the school? #dogsbreakfast

One reason for the disparity in A Levels on 09:18 - Aug 14 with 1200 views | Half_Idiot | A colleague of mines daughter had all her AS grades downgraded to B's despite being predicted A's getting A's in mocks and A* in GSCE's. Clearly some massive flaws in the system used. I wonder how long it will be before they do U-turn like the Scottish and just go with the teacher predicted grades.

One reason for the disparity in A Levels on 09:20 - Aug 14 with 1186 views | Ftnfwest | What would be interesting is to see is how different predicted grades were compared with actual grades achieved last year and previous to that as well. This group size thing doesn't seem fair though because everyone is an individual. The only other reason i initially thought for private schools to benefit more out of these adjustments is that their original predicted grades (ie. at the start of the academic year 2019/20) were high anyway relative to state ones then there was less room for manouevre in the spring when teachers were re-assessing grades in place of exam results. In other words you can't increase a grade much/at all from an A or A* anyway so it's less likely to be 'moderated'.

I guess there are a few questions. Does the standardisation favour the private system? (Seems so) Can it be easily changed? Or does the "triple lock" solve the problems? For me the triple lock fails in that pupils may well get their grades changed but could still miss out on their hoped for courses. The one thing that is good news (of sorts) are the lower number of overseas students (due to fears of cv) meaning there was more places available than normal. So many pupils not getting the grades they should, may still be able to study a decent course. But none of that addresses the bias towards privately educated pupils from this years results. The govt even talked about leveling out inequalities, yet has managed to reinforce existing inequalities in our education system. Best universities, best courses will have more not less private school educated kids this year....

One reason for the disparity in A Levels on 14:44 - Aug 14 with 1021 views | Swansea_Blue | Oh no, they're inept and nasty. Just look at the vindictive policies around immigration and welfare, the unwillingness to address islamophobia in the party, how they dealt with the elderly in their Covid response, the handling of the pension age raise for women, etc., etc....
