Tommy Carroll 21:25 - Aug 16 with 1425 views | The_Major | Defender during the Bill McGarry era, unfortunately departed today. Noted of course with joining Bill Baxter in a punch up with Sir Bob when he left them both out of the squad early in his tenure. [Post edited 16 Aug 2020 21:26]

Tommy Carroll on 21:34 - Aug 16 with 1412 views | PJH | Tommy Carroll was a very steady RB in the 1967/68 promotion season. The incident involving him and Billy Baxter was not THAT early in SBR'S time here because he had been here two years when it happened although I suppose as he had thirteen years here two years is quite early. Tommy Carroll on 21:51 - Aug 16 with 1372 views | floridablue | As a young kid in the 60s hanging around Portman Rd training sessions, autograph book in hand, Tommy signed many a picture for me. Would love to have that collection now! Sad news.

I stand corrected, I thought said fisticuffs was circa 1969/70.

Apparently it was 23rd February 1971 after a 4-2 home loss to Leeds. Both The Men Who Made The Town and SBR's own book Time On The Grass say that was when it was.

One of my early memories of Portman Road was seeing Tommy Carroll arriving for the match on his racing bicycle. I guess this was around 1969 or 1970. We would get their early (due to train times)and hang around outside. I remember him cycling along the road behind the North Stand, which I believe was called Portman's Walk in those days. He was our only full international player then, although Ray Crawford and Mick McNeil were both ex-England players in that squad.
