Quarantining the Greek Islands 09:10 - Sep 8 with 951 views | Bluefish | Why? What was the point? Our Government were better off sticking to their set parameters and pretending they were using a scientific basis. The new measures scream of making it up as they go along If we are saying Greek Islands with far less covid need to quarantine then surely the UK with far more should be on a lockdown?

Quarantining the Greek Islands on 09:20 - Sep 8 with 894 views | clive_baker | It's a hard one. There's a lot of sticks to beat the government with but there's a lot of talk of U turns which are often presented from a position of negativity. I guess one mans U-turn is another mans being reactive to an ever changing situation. That doesn't account for the sh1t show around schools and results etc, but I have somewhat more sympathy with the quarantine list as data evolves, and that will inevitably feel haphazard. Ultimately I think all most people want is the ability to plan, and some clear guidance on that. Given it's so changeable I made the decision not to even look at foreign holidays since the ones I already had booked were canned. I won't consider them to be an option until at least 2021 which I'm fine with, but I know a few people who have booked things last minute and been screwed. I would argue they knew there was risk in that when they did so. Whether or not the data justifies these latest changes or not is another question.

I’m sure Schapps previously said they wouldn’t do this because it wasn’t effective, but you’d expect a healthy dose of lies and misinformation in any government briefing.

Scotland made the decision to require travellers from Greece to quarantine 8 days ago, following a number of new cases in Scotland that were traced back to travel from Greece, they look at the same data as England but came to a very different conclusion, much sooner as well.
Quarantining the Greek Islands on 10:00 - Sep 8 with 808 views | m14_blue | I don't really have a problem with this although it does seem again that we're considerably behind Scotland in reaching the same conclusions. As the OP says, the logic starts to come apart when you consider that our infection rates are now above the threshold we have set for other countries. We're saying that we consider you a risk if you return from a country which potentially has a lower rate of infection than the UK.

The four nations look at the same data and then make a political decision, which often means just doing something different. Waiting for someone to announce the need to quarantine if you have visited an area of the UK under local lockdown.

The Johnson family holiday home is in mainland Greece, I am sure it is just a coincidence that Greece should be treated differently to Spain for quarantine rules.

Spain was over our quarantine threshold, Greece isn't for the Islands or mainland
