Cricket fans: great question from my son 14:28 - Nov 29 with 620 viewsNthsuffolkblue

Can you declare in a T20 match?

Did make me think is there any scenario where it would be advisable? A massive total with overs left and a poor weather forecast?

Technically you must be able to. Players can ‘retire out’.

You would probably cop some kind of unsporting ticking off from the authorities though....

Not in ODI's or International T20's I don't think. Possibly due to a number of reasons including betting irregularity probes, broadcasters getting the hump along with fans who have paid money to see a full number of overs etc. Domestically, I'm not so sure.

Don't think there is anything stopping batsmen from retiring out though.

no you cant, limited over games are played under specific game rules that suspend the law allowing you to declare.

As the OP says, in the event known weather.

e.g. you need a win. you are 150 for 2 after 15 overs. The satellite says it is 100% going to rain in 45 minutes. If the oppo don’t bat for at least 5 overs the game will be drawn.

Ridiculously improbable. But not impossible.

Yes, but only (I think) after 5 overs of the reply. Game is void otherwise.
