The whole ref thing. 19:34 - Feb 18 with 676 viewsTheBoyBlue

Really surprised how sympathetic I have felt towards the ref from Tuesday. There would've been a time when I would've been livid at him treating one of our players like that. Perhaps it's the whole Covid thing giving me a different perspective or just generally maturing as I get older.

However, thinking about it, it struck me that it was perhaps an indication of how disconnected I feel from everyone at the club. It's not helped by not being able to go to the ground and be there watching them in person, but generally I feel so little connection with a squad of players, management and owner who seem to care so little for the club. I can't bring myself to defend the players against the ref, because I don't feel on the same side as them anymore.

Sad really.

I reckon it is because we have all given up on the season. If we were actually playing for something there would have been a much more robust response to the ref from Town fans.

Yeah, there's also that.

I'm even more sympathetic towards him now!

Several factors played into it:

1 It was aggressive but not actually harmful.

2 It was so out of the blue and surprising I can still hardly believe he did it.

3 You have to wonder what provocation there must have been. What did Judge say?

4 There was so much greater frustration with so much more at the club this is a minor incident in the bigger scheme of things at the moment.

I should imagine something Judge said (or Drysdale thought he said) touched a raw nerve. It shows the referee to be human. He can't be allowed to get away with it but the PGMOL have charged him and he will miss a few games. Maybe he will be sent on an anger management course or something too. I think it was a surprising incident more than a shocking one.

Spot on. You never know what else is going on in his life currently that might have put him on edge more, especially things are more stressful for us all. Like you say, banned from a couple of games, nothing much more needs doing.
