If you look at what he did for Southampton after leaving us, I guess he could have played another 100+ games for Town.
No idea if he’d have happily stayed under Ferguson, and there were rumours we thought his days were numbered when he left, but his flexibility in both full back roles plus in midfield were much missed.

As a newspaper headline stated "Mills Bomb hits Ipswich" when he left. Far too soon as it turned out.
He has looked about 50 for about the last 40+ years.
I met him in the mid 90's when he was part of the management set up at Birmingham with Trevor Francis and Steve Bruce. The team were down in Plymouth as part of a pre-season warm-up camp they were all out having a few beers in the Barbican. Most of my work colleagues recognised him straight away and not the others (which peeved Steve Bruce!).
He is undoubtably a legend at our club.
He has also featured in a Viz cartoon (Ravey Davey Gravy) [Post edited 18 Feb 2021 19:39]
