Odd thing to say given Burley’s track record with getting the best out of players.
Suspect he probably just didn’t rate Slater much - which, given how disappointing he was as a Town player, is probably fair enough. He didn’t last long under Burley as I recall. |  | | |

Lyall was more hands off when Slater arrived and Burley came in with a group of players that needed a firm kick up the backside. He managed to get a reaction out of some who stepped up the following season in the likes of Mason, and others like Slater, Linighan and a few others couldn't handle it so were rightly offed. They were a bloody terrible side, however would still beat this one! |  |
