Talking Town the other night?

Interesting what Slater said about Burley about man management

Just said went from a great man manager in Lyall and Burley wasn't the best man manager also said we should have played more defensively against Man Utd in the 9v0 loss as he said we didn't have much pace in the team

Odd thing to say given Burley’s track record with getting the best out of players.

Suspect he probably just didn’t rate Slater much - which, given how disappointing he was as a Town player, is probably fair enough. He didn’t last long under Burley as I recall.

Keep saying it "chemistry"

It is possible for people not to be best of friends, but the chemistry between them is good it drives them to success. If there's no chemistry, it's unlikely to be successful.

Lyall was more hands off when Slater arrived and Burley came in with a group of players that needed a firm kick up the backside. He managed to get a reaction out of some who stepped up the following season in the likes of Mason, and others like Slater, Linighan and a few others couldn't handle it so were rightly offed. They were a bloody terrible side, however would still beat this one!

Burley's strength was never really man-management, it was consistent coaching and a clear footballing ethos which all the players bought into and trusted.
