People Laughed 23:13 - Apr 13 with 1725 views | cressi | When I said including young players who had being around the 1st team I would only keep 6 / 7 off these players now with the takeover done I don't think I'm going to be far wrong. Both keepers poor maybe Holy as back up. The back four maybe KVY if fit and wolf if he gets back to previous seasons form. Three midfielders required and three Strikers and that's for starters I Believe Cook and the board know this ,summer is going to be like a hotel with a revolving door.

None of those managers have shown a clearly defined shape for the players to work to. It’s continuous chop and change.

We know Doz, Lankester, Woolfenden and Bishop have held their own in the Championship though - Why is it all 4 of those prospects suddenly look crap in L1? Not trying to defend them arbitrarily, but there is no revisionism in this post to claim that they have played much better football in a team that has the basics and shape sorted out.

They would be players that would stay in my humble opinion but maybe not all start amongst other young players like maybe Nydam,McGavin ,Gibbs and Dorba etc

Woolfenden played 3 games in the championship (1 start), though had done well for Swindon in League 2. Lankester played 11 (5 starts). Even someone like Dozzell only started 17 games in the championship. Did those 3 really "hold their own"? Bishop did but hes had rotten injuries and may never be as good as he could be. I would probably keep those 4 mentioned but I don't really know how much better they will get.

Saying that, I would be tempted to go with the majority of them on Saturday. Holy, Vincent-Young, Kenlock, Woolfenden, Chambers, Downes, Nydam, Bishop, Lankester, Dobra, Norwood Substitutes: Cornell, Crowe, Nsiala, Dozzell, Gibbs, Hawkins, Jackson/Simpson

You could argue almost every player has previous of being competent at this level. We signed half the bloody L1 Team of the year in 2018, yet currently those players look shocking. We've got a player who was one of the best technical players in the Championship in 2015, yet he can't control the ball nowadays.

I know, it's crazy. I don't believe players just become crap like that. I know Bish and Doz have had injuries that can define careers, even so - people used to be scouting/watching them week in week out. [Post edited 14 Apr 2021 8:31]

I'm not sure that have become crap in terms of ability. I think it's mostly in the mind. Injured players who no longer entirely trust their bodies. Those who have burnt themselves out or who have mental health issues. Those who don't think they have a future at the club. Those who have got deeply stuck in bad habits. Those who have lost their dedication amid the exciting life of being a footballer. There's only so much galvanising even an enthusiastic bloke like Cook can do.

I do think some of our players are like us as fans - we just need something new. Sad to see a town youngster develop elsewhere - but this club must have been quite miserable to play for over the last few years.

Bit of a stretch that. Bishop proved he could prior to 3-4 years of constant injuries. Not the same player anymore. Woolfenden played 3 games in Champ before being shipped off to League Two. Dozzell has certainly never cut it in the champ. Everytime he was given a chance he did absolutely nothing and people said he needed a run of games. Well he's had a whole season in League One now and doesn't come close to standing out. Lankester - 11 games, did well but you could say Josh Carson did too and look how he's turned out. Hopefully he can show something next year but done absolutely nothing since returning from injury. I think these are 4 players that in a good squad would do well, but certainly arent players we can rely on week in, week out. Good enough as squad players but thats all.
