Car insurance question 15:00 - Apr 30 with 1160 views | The_Flashing_Smile | I recently changed my address on my car insurance - costing £76. But I've now decided to scrap the car, so I completely wasted that money! Is there a way of getting it back? I know you can get refunds on products when you change your mind, but would that work with a service item like this? I'm about to speak to my insurer, just wondering if anyone knows anything about where I stand legally?

Thanks FixedIt! I've never cancelled an insurance policy before so didn't know I could get a refund on the remainder of the policy! On a live chat with them now.

Actually, I'm getting a new car and they're saying they can just transfer my policy to the new car, which makes sense.

Yep - that's the common practice and they just adjust the premium depending on whether you have bought a Merc or a Ford Ka.

If you only a few months left, you could let it run and gain another years no claims discount. Part years don't count unfortunately.

I'm heading to a Nissan dealer in Penge to buy a new car tomorrow. Partly to annoy you.
