Anybody reading Shuggie Bain? 15:38 - May 31 with 738 viewsnodge_blue

It's a really great read about a family in Glasgow back in the 80s. Highly recommend it.

But the coincidental bit is that one of the main characters (Agnes) goes to a country and western night and gives herself the name of phoenix rising.

Maybe not worth a post in its own right, but there you go.

Good summer read recommendation if nothing else.

Bought it for Lady Dollers for Xmas but she hasn't read it yet. How funny that I've had a clue to our new owners just sat in our flat since Xmas and never knew!

Trust the process. Trust Phil.

Agnes is a beautiful woman grown up in rough poverty and abused by men. Became alcoholic. Shuggie is her son. I can't tell if she's going to get redemption in the end or tragedy. She's now met her Mr right who took her dancing, but Ive got a feeling it could all go tits.
