Happy Birthday to our American Blues 08:57 - Jul 4 with 701 views | wkj | Happy Birthday to the country that many of our friends love and adore. May your passion and pride be a great step in your journey to freedom from 2020/21. In a lot of ways, getting past C19 will be a true independence day for us all, not just our American friends and family.

Much more grand and exciting than Brexit - If only we'd poured all the Stella into the North Sea.

And they only won because of the French, and because we got bored of fighting them. In the longer run, looks like we dodged one there.

Happy Birthday to our American Blues on 11:30 - Jul 4 with 602 views | floridablue | Thanks for the Birthday greetings, what is it now, 245th? Only this week I've received a certificate from the organization.. 'Sons of the American Revolution' (SAR) confirming 100% one of my paternal ancestors played a part in the conflict. I started DNA researching 3 years ago and came across records, distant cousins and names in Virginia, going back to the 1700s. I do wonder if any of my maternal side was involved with the British forces but cannot find any lists.

Didn't we offer them out again once the we'd beaten French? Going to send over the top class troops who'd been busy elsewhere. Burnt down the Whitehouse, but both countries would have to up the tax on normal people to go to war again, so we decided to be friends?

The War of 1812 was considered a huge mistake by both sides. Basically the British blockade on trade with France and its allies, combined with seizing deserters from US ships, caused enough friction to start hostilities. Burning Washington was of little significance. The Americans failed to take Canada. One of the bloodiest battles happened after the peace had been signed, but before the news had arrived in the area. Merchants and businessmen on both sides were desperate to get back to normal trade, pressuring the two governments to stop the war. The first defeat of Napoleon (in early 1814) removed most of the reasons why the dispute had broken out and peace talks commenced a few months later.

Happy Birthday to our American Blues on 22:35 - Jul 4 with 432 views | HARRY10 | Plenty of myths to be celebrated It is estimated that over 50,000' Americans' served with the British. Native Americans served on both sides, believing they would win back their lands. They didn't, they were lied to, Paul Revere did not make the ride as recalled, he was captured by the British. There is no evidence that Betsy Ross played any part in designing or sewing the American flag that made its debut in 1777. There was plenty of support in Britain for the revolution. Around a quarter of the British troops were German mercenaries After an initial burst of support, the Americans relied upon recent European immigrants who were with induced to sign up with cash payments and promises of land and....the Declaration was not signed on 4th July, in fact not even in July.
