agreed, but can see why neither were overturned by var as an "obvious error", both were arguable/could be easily missed

Quite. If the one on Kane was given (which it should have been) then VAR wouldn’t have overturned. Equally had Sterling’s not been, then VAR wouldn’t have given it. I like this use of VAR, let the refs ref and only intervene for anything glaringly wrong, rather than consulting a monitor every 2 seconds. The premier league should take note.
