Our scout team have definitely hacked into Pompey's Database 15:47 - Aug 13 with 1127 viewskizaitfc

I am sure 90% of our signings and linked players have had somewhere in the story, "Portsmouth are interested".

Maybe they haven't changed the login passwords since Paul left

Poll: Mick in or out? (not a dig at Mick just want to see the overall opinion on here)

Could say the same about Wigan...

It's almost like they are making it up. Just like we've apparently beaten Sunderland to three quarters of our signings. Nothing gets your clicks up on a league one article like mentioning 2+ of Sunderland, Ipswich, Sheff Wed and Portsmouth.

Truly impaired.

The fact that he was born in Portsmouth, and is a Pompey fan, just tops it off. It's almost like Cook (or the journos if they've made it up) have thought that it is the perfect revenge mission after losing out on Morrell, who was of course from Ipswich...

Occams razor.
Even if our scouting software is different, these software packages are looking at the same players so it stands to reason that the stats are basically the same.
I want a midfielder who's cheap, young and gifted.
Kerching - the highlighted players are going to be the same.
There is NO f**king conspiracy - Jeez.

Don't believe a word I say. I'm only kidding. Or am I?

Admittedly my information is out of date but basically all English teams used WyScout and/or Scout7 (now part of Opta).

But even then, as you say, it's basically all the same statistics presented in slightly different ways.

Some of those ways were a complete nightmare to build...

I do however remember a time when I think Fulham ended up seeing Liverpools scouting list for a one page load. That was a fun bug to track down.

The old computer adage still stands today.
GIGO - Garbage In, Garbage Out.

However, these software packages that analyse footballers have become very sophisticated in what they do. This is mainly due to the elimination of the bugs and learning from what they did wrong in previous seasons.
As you point out there is always a learning curve and howlers to overcome.
The early providers of this software are those that are now leading the field.

"The early providers of this software are those that are now leading the field."

Yup, I used to work for one of those listed as a developer ;)

One of my many claims to greatness was that I made millions for the HSBC investment bank.
However, my brief was not "write a trading software program to make millions" but "write this program and if you screw it up you're sacked".
I don't think anyone checked the code as some of my subroutines had labels like 'Sex' and 'Hell' - as in GOTO Hell and Perform SEX.
