Yep, been a good session.

India has a good hour and then another two wickets. So nice to be at a Test match again.

But, when it comes, how many wickets will England lose before they get to a ton? Easy three down I reckon.

This is the thing. The pessimist in me sees India getting north of 350 being a match winning score. And if Root fails, where on earth are the runs coming from?

Encouraging fightback by England's bowlers, but it's worrying that India have lost all these wickets today and batting is our weakest element. India still very much in the box seat.

Third ball edged and bounces fractions short of slip's hands.

Currently making a great effort to make India's run rate look positively rapid.

India started ridiculously slowly too - it was only when Curran came on and offered up a load of half volleys, that they got over 2rpo. ( after 13 overs India 18-0 england 20-0)

I'm just delighted we've not lost a wicket yet... first target is just bat til tea, no need to worry about runs

True. I will be happy with 50-0 at the close as long as it is -0.

That said, lose a few wickets early tomorrow and even that is not good.

We are not really that close to 2 an over. 22 off 13.3 is 1.63.

I'm not one to worry about RR, but if we only score 27 in the remaining 38 overs today, I'll be questioning what is going on.

Hameed looked incredibly nervous taking guard there.

I think he was on a bit of a hiding to nothing, personally. Been out of test cricket so long, then to stick him in at lord’s at no.3 when he’s a natural opener, against a very good India attack was asking a lot. I think he should have had a go in Sri Lanka earlier this year in a lower key series, to see if he’s still got it.

That said, it was a pretty poor defence to a straight one.

Look, we’ve already got one Gainsborough Blue, no need for any more.

Only just got over 200 runs for the day but it’s been absolutely brilliant. Definitely the best form of the sport.

Without doubt Steve. It was a pity, Burns and Root were looking so comfortable. England have certainly had a very decent day.

The slow over rate remains the elephant in the room, depriving spectators who've paid large sums of their full day's cricket. The docking of Test World Championship points & part of match fees from the last Test in Nottingham doesn't seem to be having an impact. A more immediate punishment is needed. Cricket should take one good idea from the hated Hundred & introduce fielder penalties. If you haven't bowled your overs within an agreed time frame, you lose at least one fielder for an equivalent number of overs.
Another thing would be to ban the regular on-field transgressions by people carrying drinks, new batting gloves etc. There is already a statutory drinks break in each session - use that!

Poll: Should horse racing be banned in the UK?
