Wigan DID make a huge squad refresh successful 17:19 - Dec 2 with 1150 viewsunstableblue

So if you look at Wigan players most appearances (over 20 last season, over 10 this season). You see that only 2 players have really carried over:

20/21
Jamie Jones
Dan Gardner
Curtis Tilt
Thelo Aasgaard
Will Keane
Viv Solomon-Otabor
Christopher Merrie
Tom Pearce
Tendayi Darikwa
Alex Perry
Luke Robinson
Lee Evans
Ollie Crankshaw
Tom James
Funso Ojo
George Johnston

21/22
Max Power
Tom Naylor
Will Keane**
Gavin Massey
Ben Amos
Callum Lang
Tendayi Darikwa**
Stephen Humphrys
Kelland Watts
Jack Whatmough
Charlie Wyke
Jordan Cousins
James McClean
Gwion Edwards
Jordan Jones

DOES NOT reflect well on our similar performance... but as we all know, someone from that top six are going to drop away, and hopefully that will coincide with a change in our fortunes. PLEEEEEEEEEEEEASSSSSSSSSSSSSEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE GOOOODDDD!!

There's a fair few sides above us moved similar numbers of players to us.

'Cookie has lots of new players so it's not his fault' is the new 'it's the players' fault'.

I'm one of the people who was blamed for getting Paul Cook sacked. PM for the full post.

Didn;t realise Wigan had already been promoted - season must be over as we only have another 78 points to play for.Who went up with them?

2 of those are still there and a couple of this year's were at the club before.

the vital difference though is that the manager has been at the club for 4 years, knows the board, the players, the structure etc etc.

even then, their player turnover is nowhere near ours

The biggest difference is they have Leam Richardson the real architect of Paul Cooks previous successes …… just saying !

Well they haven't, obviously. But I'd hate to put numbers on their odds of going up versus ours. Our odds must be incredibly long given we'd have to pick up points equal to our better than anyone in the league has managed so far in order to stand a chance of going up automatically. Just to stand a chance of sneaking in the POs we'd need at least 1.8 pts/game.

I can't remember the exact workings out now, but I'm pretty sure we'd need at least 2 points a game for auto promotion based on best guesses of final points tallies (based on previous seasons). We're averaging 1.35pts/game, and briefly managed about 1.8 pts/game in our mini good run against teams near the bottom. Last 6 matches is 1.16 pts/game. So were' not joining Wigan or anyone else who goes up in the top 2.

I've been saying this for ages and feel like a stuck record, but a lot of people don't realise how incredibly difficult it would be for us to catch up. They look at the table and see we're 'only' 7 or 11 points off 6th or 2nd, respectively. But those teams are all pulling away from us. We'd need one of them and us to both have massive reversals of fortune. Sunderland are the only one that's not got more points than us over the last 6, but some of those have got 4 or 5 more points so are pulling away quite a lot.

Anyway, that's a long way of saying I've more chance of hooking up with Kylie than us going up automatically, and the odds of making the playoffs aren't much better.
