Why Manning would be a bad fit... 14:18 - Dec 5 with 985 viewsTresBonne

Liam Manning walked into MK Dons with a team who already had an identity and a clear vision of how they want to play. Russell Martin laid down all the foundations and if he was still in charge, I'm 100% certain that they'd still be where they are.

Joining Ipswich would pretty much be the exact opposite of that. Manning has no experience in turning around a club's fortunes or identity.

He would be a fantastic fit if he was guaranteed a job and time to build regardless of how the rest of this season pans out. From the bits I've heard I have few worries about his potential to get us doing the right things in the long run, he's extremely highly rated and that's not to do with the legacy that — as you rightly say — he inherited at MK.

Big question around this whole process is what we do about this season, in the short term, and how much the appointment is centred on that. The owners clearly want us up this season and I don't think anyone can blame them. One thing in a younger coach's favour might be that it really shouldn't take too much to get a tune out of the squad we have — just the right tweaks here and there.

I don’t think he’d get time though, not with this fan base and the expectations on the club.

The expectations being we would like to be challenging for the play offs in the third division. Not to be embarrassed every other week when a youth team or teams very close to becoming non professional teams come to Portman Road and more than hold their own.

Honestly wouldn't be surprised with an interim until the end of the season, then assess where we and the 'project' are at that stage.

Do you give it Warnock til the summer, probably the best instant-success man available and see if he can get us up, then employ a Manning after?

Time will tell.

Just put on another thread that, if McGreal makes the few tweaks that should get us heading in the right direction, you could perhaps see him holding on til summer.

The expectation is around the time it takes to achieve this, not where we should be. I’m sure we all agree we are nowhere near good enough, it just wether 20 league games is enough to change things

The only Muff in Town.
