Robin Turner..... 09:50 - Dec 30 with 2268 views | ITFC_Forever | My daughter came to the game last night as we had a couple of spare tickets and brought her friend with her. As we were walking along the back of the SBR stand and looking at the artwork on the way to the Fanzone, daughter's friend casually remarked, "oh, there's my uncle, he played for Ipswich when they won some cup or other in the 70s..." Turns out her uncle is Robin Turner who now lives in Ireland and is a gaelic football coach.

I looked him up on wiki and it said that too..... It was the casual way she said "when we won some cup or other in the 70s" that got me .... she's 17 so it was more than 25 years before she was born, but she was slightly taken aback when me and mate said to her of course we have heard of him, if it wasn't for him at Bristol, "some cup win or other" wouldn't have happened.

Robin Turner..... on 13:10 - Dec 30 with 1604 views | FBI | Aww, memories. I got a squad-signed ball from 1984 for Christmas from Mrs FBI and alongside Osman, Butcher, D'Avray, (cough) Trevor Putney and Irvin Gernon was Robin Turner. He was my favourite reserve player (who didn't have one of those?) and the main reason was the 1978 cup run when he featured right up to the final, when David Geddis replaced him. Probably because of that I always picture him in the original white Adidas away kit rather than the blue.

Indeed, without Mr Turner the 78 cup run would have ended at Bristol Rovers. Oddly I remember him more for missing an open goal against WBA at Highbury, which is a bit harsh as it was 3-1 at the time and the game was about over. I don’t think in those days squad members got winners medals, but I hope he was given one in later years, as Beattie was with an 81 UEFA Cup winners medal.
Robin Turner..... on 02:54 - Jan 1 with 1066 views | jmar17 | Sounds like my cousin has a couple of facts wrong, Rob isn’t a Gaelic Football coach he is the caretaker at my old school and works with the special needs children there. He does do a lot of the football coaching there but to be honest I doubt he knows the first thing about Gaelic. And the fact she said some cup or other? Shame to the family.
