One of my resolutions this year was to watch as many Oscar nominated... 15:50 - Jan 12 with 636 viewsunbelievablue

...films as possible, instead of chucking on something droll on iPlayer or re-watching one of my favourites. Though the Oscars is not without issue, especially when it comes to representation, and is by no means an arbiter of good taste, quality film-making etc., I realised when I glanced at a list that I fell woefully short of having watched many of them at all, even in recent years.

So if anyone is interested, I have compiled every Oscar nominated film (Best Picture, Best Actor, Best Actress, Best Director) into a spreadsheet (initially stolen from Reddit then revised by yours truly). This version is clean from my colour codings on whether I have watched the film/liked it etc. I thought it may be of some use for some people:

Thanks for this - I tend to spend as much time searching for good films as I do watching them.

Very good of you, thank you.

Do you have Odeon Limitless? Odeon usually have an Oscars season when they show most of the films nominated in the major categories. I think that you can sign up monthly and bail out at any point, so that might be worth you looking at to catch the difficult to find ones.

Your next challenge is to do what my son did in his late teens and watch every one of the 100 highest rated films on IMDB.

I recently signed up to Odeon Limitless, yep.

Isn't the IMDB list ever changing, though?!

2016 and 2017 contain a lot of brilliance, spread across a number of genres.

Hell or High Water is brilliant, but mostly forgotten in the UK. The last great Western (kinda).

If I was you, my resolution would have been to compile a list of Oscar nominated films and then stop there!

You've got to watch over 3 a day lol (edit - assuming you want a good stab at getting through all of them).

Well yeah, I won't do it all in 2022. But I can get a good start. I probably won't bother with a lot of the pre-50s ones to be honest, either. And I've seen a good handful already. But yeah, time to get cracking!

The All-Time top 100 has some movement within it, but it is such a "mature" list with huge amounts of data that it takes a lot to move something established a long way. #MeToo or similar may see certain actors or directors getting a flurry of low ratings, though.

It's still the ultimate "Crowd-sourced from people who care enough to create an account and vote" list, in my opinion, though.

It's an interesting goal. I assume you like films, otherwise you'll be in for a long slog!

I'll admit to having watched very few of these, so may pick off a few of the winners to become a bit more cultured. I haven't even heard of a lot of the nominations for recent years. My film watching stopped when we moved on to family films for the kids and has never recovered.

I'll add a tab and get those done at the same time. I suspect I've seen a good deal of them. Update to follow...

Seemingly seen 39 for sure, 12 which I think I have but would need to rewatch, and a few more that I may have seen but not 100%. So around half...maybe.

I thought that's a good idea, I should do that, not checked 50-100 yet but was actually a bit disapointed to realise I'd seen 48 out of the top 50 as they currently stand.

No idea when I began here, was a very long time ago. Previously known as Spirit_of_81. Love cheese, hate the colour of it, this is why it requires some blue in it.
