Good but miserable piece in how Russia is reusing tactics from Syria on 20:10 - Mar 24 with 1105 views | GlasgowBlue | History repeating isn't it. Any day now we are going to get the Chemical attack which will be blamed on the Ukrainians. It's absolutely brutal. And yes, I remember those White Helmet posts from back then. Shameful stuff.

Good but miserable piece in how Russia is reusing tactics from Syria on 20:18 - Mar 24 with 1080 views | jeera | "up to 24,743 civilians allegedly killed by Russian strikes, according to the civilian harm monitor Airwars." Almost twenty-five thousand. "From the Damascus suburb of Ghouta, to the great cultural and economic powerhouse of Aleppo, Russian bombs hit hospitals, schools, markets and queues of people waiting for bread. Its planes helped enforce Syrian sieges on the ground, reducing people to desperate skeletal bodies. And when Russia and the Syrian army promised exit routes, they sometimes bombed and shot the civilians trying to flee." It is a deliberate tactic isn't it. The slaughter of innocents and the demolition of everything that represents their lives is all about breaking spirit until there's no resistance left. People who survive don't recover from that, it's the sort of ruin that can run for generations. The more I see, the more frustrating and helpless it feels. [Post edited 24 Mar 2022 21:08]

Good but miserable piece in how Russia is reusing tactics from Syria on 21:16 - Mar 24 with 1011 views | Churchman | Thank you for posting this. Sobering, sad, horrifying, illuminating and not enough words to describe the plight of the people. Putin is not going to stop. When he’s crushed Ukraine, he still won’t stop. He won’t stop unless he believes somebody will stand in his way and somebody actually does. Putin is your standard grade A bully and dictator. Words, big flags, smiles and handshakes are not enough. We are in real terms standing aside and watching while Putin’s butchers do their work. Enough is enough.

I think most of us understand the risks of doing more, as in tangibly. But it's all very well as a single guy with no kids to say 'feck it go for it', I am willing as an individual to risk being caught up in a nuclear explosion and my life ending unpleasantly* in order to do what is right. Then I think of my niece and her beautiful children and how I want them safe more than anything. Then I remember there are lots of other people who want their loved ones kept safe too. On the basis of that I can understand those who are reluctant for us to steam in but at the same time, there are children/families being hurt who also just want to be left alone. It's impossible and your head hurts even thinking about it all. When Hitler invaded Europe it took incredible bravery on a national level to declare war as well as on an individual level for those who physically went to fight for what was right. I also appreciate the stakes, given modern warfare capabilities are so much more sophisticated, (has there ever been such a contradiction?), are potentially much higher. I dislike our incumbent government but do not envy them or any other NATO power right now in their position being those to consider the options. *there are other unpleasant ways too of course. Judging by the ineptitude and the lack of leadership of the Russian army over the last month, think Putin has plenty to worry about if he wants to seriously challenge NATO. The way things are going, I’d say the Ukrainians are winning this war and they’re making the Russian President look even more a fool by the day.

I guess there was an added dimension with Syria which isn't in play here in that Russia also funded populist anti-refugee parties on both left and right across Europe to demonise those trying to build a better life away from that destruction.
