Contrasting public opinion 14:00 - Apr 10 with 1079 views | Crawfordsboot | I find it interesting that: 1. When large international IT companies effectively pay tax on worldwide profits at a rate dictated by their country of registration/residence it causes much indignation and clamour for them to be taxed locally according to the levels of local turnover. On the other hand: 2. When an international person is taxed locally only on local earnings, or remitted income, there is also much indignation and clamour for them to be taxed on whole world earnings. I guess you can’t have it both ways so which is it to be?

Being Chancellor of the UK whilst holding a green card and being married to a non dom is not a tenable position in any way shape or form if you propose to raise taxes to the highest they’ve been for decades and have blithely gifted billions of taxpayers money to fraudsters It’s also not very wise when all this was already known and declared - with an incompetent chancer in need of distractions living next door

No not confused - I share your general sentiment. However there is much irrational pontificating around this topic. Clearly there is lack of understanding as to how tax treaties work - and why, in an advanced western nation, it is helpful to have a limited form of non dom status. This particular Chancellor will at some stage be replaced and forgotten. We need to revise the rules such that in future our politicians can no longer be non dom, or hold a green card.
