Blimey, go out for an hour and 3 wickets fall, and the runs dry up

Lees unnecessarily run out by Root

A great opening stand by our openers. Think Crawley has given himself another life with that 46. With this pitch and the quality of India's bowling attack it was always going to be a big ask to chase this total down. A lot rests on Bairstow, Root and Stokes' shoulders, but I'm still expecting an Indian victory.

Great recovery by Root & Bairstow. as long as at least one of them doesn't go early tomorrow, I'm hopeful we can win because there's still 23 overs before the new ball & they won't hang around. Should be yet another great day's entertainment tomorrow as it's not going to be a draw.

There was a quick single there if Lees had run but instead he paid no attention to it. Root was running to the danger end and was comfortably home. A bad misunderstanding.

The advantages of this new approach are that the opposition cannot settle into any sort of prolonged pressure on us and we will have many more runs on the board by the time the second new ball comes around whenever it does. I am sure there will be problems ahead with the philosophy (and it will probably be rapidly adopted by other sides too), but its success so far must have exceeded everyone's expectations.

There wasn't the need for a quick single. England had another 5 sessions to score 270 odd - easily do able.

Three wickets for 2 runs, looked as if it was all over. But cometh the hour, cometh the men, with Barstow and Root putting together a 150 partnership to swing it back in Englands favour.

The ECB have done themselves and fans a huge favour, yet again. They made the 5th day free, with those interested needing to book online first. 25,00 tickets grabbed in an hour !

In each of these past 4 matches there have been times when the usual cry of 'England have blown it' was on most fans lips. Yet through a display of batting confidence/aggression, and just sheer 'up and at 'em' attitude they have pulled off a 3-0 v NZ, and made themselves favourites to turn over India, knocking over a few records along the wa

Even if they fail in this chase, it’s been a brilliant effort and I love the go for it approach. Well done the management and the players.

I hope they do it and with wickets in hand they should do.

I must admit, I was starting to change my view once we got to the close. However, when you look at what is to come India are probably only two wickets away from really exposing us. Stokes needs to adopt Bairstow’s batting approach and show some responsibility, instead of this nonsense I’m just going to smash every ball. Still all up for grabs, should be an exciting couple of sessions.

It's been helped that the last few Tests (probably not Lord's) have been on decent pitches with a bit of pace & fast outfields. This approach probably won't work on a slow, flat wicket or on a turning pitch in the sub-continent.
