Joe Pigott scores 2 on Pompey debut 01:19 - Jul 20 with 1895 viewsAK74

Against Leyton Orient. Still think it is a good move for both parties but wouldn't be surprised if he gets 20 for them this season.

Good luck to him

I saw this retweeted by Stu Watson. Danny Cowley’s description of Joe Piggot. I didn’t realise how eccentric Danny Cowley is!

I think it was a good move for all 3 parties, especially the player, which is probably why it happened. Having watched enough of Pigott last season, I will be very surprised if he does get 20 goals this season.

I still think we have been far to hasty in dumping him, but I wish him well. Sadly I doubt he'' return to Town

He did it for Wimbledon of course, which is why we got him.

But he doesn’t fit our style, so it makes sense to remove a high wage from our books

It's a tricky one. However, if things simply aren't working at this particular club, with our team setup and tactical approach, then is there much point in keeping the player on just because he's decent?

To do so leaves the dilemma of needing a significant reorganisation of the way we play to suit him, or trying to change Pigott, risking making him less effective (as has happened).

For me, he is another casualty of Cook's seeking to hire quality, without so much thought to integration and structure. Then Bonne's flying start to the season pretty much relegated Pigott to second fiddle.

Good Lord! Whatever is it?

His record previous to his Wimbledon season suggests it was more a fluke rather than someone who is prolific.

It was a signing that wasn't thought through, Cook was like a kid in a sweet shop.

Still, Pigott seems a decent bloke and I hope he finds a home at Fratton.

Meh. I wish him well but:
A - its difficult to see what his attributes are - he doesn't link play, doesn't have a physical presence and has no pace and
B - he doesn't fit our current system(or indeed the previous time)
C - his best periods(one 'Lisbie season aside), most of his goals and best performances have been at a lower level.

I'm one of the people who was blamed for getting Paul Cook sacked. PM for the full post.

He was underwhelming but at the same time, I don't think we ever played to his strengths either and if I am honest, the way we were set up towards the end of the season, we weren't going to be scoring a ton, unless the opposition didn't show up like Charlton.

And hopefully by the point he returns we will be a division higher.

Best case really is for him to smash it at Pompey (who fail to remotely challenge us), do well for himself, we end up getting £500k or so next summer and cut our losses.

If Pigott ends up back here playing it's because McKenna has been a disaster, has been sacked and we are now playing the Cowley or Wimbledon way in League One. If that happens I'll be past caring who is up front for us!

I don't care if we have to play like Rotherham, there is no sexy football in this league, we just have to get out of it.

It's all very well having lofty ideals of developing a style and footballing culture, but whenever your possession play starts to build up and looks like it is working, the opposition then slows the game down, breaks up play by pretending to be hurt, taking forever to take freekicks and goal kicks and after all that is done, we've lost control of the game and its back to square one. Then we do score and it's disallowed, and then we end up drawing the game or losing to a naff goal against the run of play.

The most successful sides at getting out of this league are generally quite physical, quick and know how to play the officials like fiddles.

We have utterly failed to adapt since coming down. I think Coventry is the only side that looked like a good footballing side we have played who actually got up since we were relegated.

I think that football needs to address this fake injury issue. I don't know what the solution is, but it can't continue having players falling on the floor not moving and then as soon as the ball goes out they're fine.

Same with goal kicks and free kicks and the duration some teams take.
