Yes, some loose shots will happen given the way we're trying to play but that was pretty poor: Some echoes of the comments on ITFC last night.

Going to a battle of the attacks this series I feel. SA have a pretty good one and are no great shakes with the bat themselves. It's not particularly comfortable listening at the moment though.

On the face of it, agreed. But who on earth do you pick instead? They may go back to Burns who, at times, made batting look ridiculously easy on the CC streams I've seen this year. Then again, there is a difference between facing county and test bowling. Sibley doesn't seem a McCullum/Stokes type player though he may be invigorated by a move back to Surrey in the winter, where he will link up with aforementioned Burns. Haines at Sussex was talked about, but he has been injured since early doors this summer. Harry Brook also, but he isn't an opener is he? Maybe Duckett? And as I type, Root has gone.

NOT Sibley!! Problem is County cricket is dead, so no-one else. I like Duckett.

Great idea to have a big gap between Tests right in the middle of Summer.... That said, England's first innings scores were not great against NZ or India which I think got forgotten in the drama of what followed. Just been for a walk in Regent's Park and it's really humid, definitely a day to bowl first.

Without that one it was a mini-recovery, we've not far off scoring four runs an over.

Duckett was a fantastic talent as a youngster at Northants, but made the mistake of daring to stand up to Jimmy Anderson, so was booted off an England tour.
