The voice of rugby for me. V sad and far to young.

Before my time as player but the old man always said he was seriously good

Far too young indeed. Will miss his dulcet tones come the Six Nations.

Good Lord! Whatever is it?

Similar age to me & some of my contemporaries either knew him or played rugby against him. By all accounts Butler was a very nice man as well as an excellent rugby player & broadcaster.

Butler was 65. Was on a trek in Peru. Heart attack, I guess.

Met him a couple of times. A lovely, erudite man. Possibly a tad biassed towards Wales, however much he tried to hide it!

Funny that, because my father in law always said he seemed unable to hide his excitement about England. Not the first time I’ve heard that over here either. It must be the Welsh equivalent of our split over Brenner Woolley.

Bit of a bolt out of the blue this. Hell of an iconic voice and seemed like a lovely fella.

That's a shame I loved his pieces before a big sporting event, not sure if he wrote them too but really set the mood along with some stirring music.

Coincidentally ..... same age , place and reason as John Peel
