At 2-0 I would have brought Ball on 11:12 - Sep 18 with 2312 views | cbower | Sacrificed one of John-Jules, Burns or Jackson and strengthened the middle of the park to stifle any Wendies comeback which would almost certainly come through Bannan. May even have asked Ball to man mark him for 25 mins. Just my take.

At 2-0 I would have brought Ball on on 12:02 - Sep 18 with 2236 views | BigCommon | I was thinking exactly the same. Obviously in hind sight.. But we could have choked the midfield and dare I say it s/housed a bit, the last ten minutes.. I also think, that although we weren't at our creative best yesterday. The work rate put in by Chaplin, JJ and Jackson, was sorely missed when they came off.. Harness looked willing to chase down. But Burns was knackered and Ladapo sluggish.

The problem was when we cleared the ball we just gave it back to them and invited more pressure rather then push them back.

At 2-0 I would have brought Ball on on 13:17 - Sep 18 with 2161 views | BloomBlue | But SW had simply started to pump it forward and were bypassing the midfield which is why I think KM went with the Keogh option

Got a feeling Ladapo was brought on to try and hold the ball up or draw fouls in their half. But nothing seemed to stick on him. So, as you say, the ball just kept coming back at us. And because our press disappeared , they could pick a pass more easily or carry the ball up to half way line.. Horrible when you see your team get deeper and deeper when defending a lead. We just invited them onto us.
Completely agree… to man mark Bannon on 13:30 - Sep 18 with 2124 views | unstableblue | McKenna stated JJs role was to at times drop deep and fill midfield The centre backs we’re doing ok… it was the service from Bannon that needed choking We lost the game due to silly fouls in dangerous areas… Leigh and Burbs being left one on one… they needed Ball marauding around Leigh looked a little overawed to me yesterday… Davis more composed but had the yellow I do think Keogh looked to be marshalling players better I did notice yesterday that when under the cosh first half are players including Morsy were very quiet.. not enough direction and firing each other up [Post edited 18 Sep 2022 13:31]

At 2-0 I would have brought Ball on on 13:44 - Sep 18 with 2087 views | NthQldITFC | That's exactly what I would have done, leave the defence as was and bring on Ball to man-mark Bannan for the last 25mins. As my old manager would have said "Get right up his .... and stay there 'til the morning!" Mind you, KMcK knows a lot more stuff than I do, so I wouldn't question his decision.

He'll be watching it back today and examining his own decisions. It felt like a wasted opportunity certainly, but if anything was learned that might help another day and all that. [Post edited 18 Sep 2022 17:11]

At 2-0 I would have brought Ball on on 14:41 - Sep 18 with 1983 views | Vic | Possibly one of KM’s poorer decisions. But even Pep and Koop get it wrongs sometimes so I don’t think we can have too many complaints. He’s done so much right so far, and he’s still learning. We’re not going to win every game - but at least we do look like we can seriously hold our own against the best. Be really interesting to see how the games v Plymouth and Portsmouth play out. I’ll be happy with 2 more draws (the most likely outcome in my opinion, but a win and a loss won’t surprise me and won’t be a disaster.

We're questioning McKenna's decisions because we failed to hold on to a 2-0 lead. That's the way football - and life - works. This doesn't actually mean that his decisions were incorrect.

At 2-0 I would have brought Ball on on 18:35 - Sep 18 with 1797 views | TheBoyBlue | Thing is, unlike previous managers who would have belligerently maintained they got it right and moaned at us fans for whining, I'm pretty confident that McKenna and his team will analyse how this went and if they feel they made a mistake will learn from it.

At 2-0 I would have brought Ball on on 19:53 - Sep 18 with 1714 views | PioneerBlue | Our game never really got going but listening to KMcK this was the game plan. It worked for 70 odd mins. Moving into a 541 left Ladapo with no support and the loss of the 10s put no pressure on their defence. All hindsight. I’m inclined to agree that a third midfield player might have found a way to close space and get us higher, or given support to Ladapo by not taking Chaplin off.

Agree with your McKenna comments. We forget he's only 8 months into his first proper, managerial job. He must be feeling pretty frustrated at the official's in the Barnsley and Weds games. Robbing him of a nigh on perfect start to the season. Think both those games were so close to being called tactically perfect. If Harness goal stands in the Barnsley game, then it's a master stroke bringing him on and KM is a genius. If we held out for a few more minutes at Weds, then, equally, bringing Keogh on is a master stroke and KM is a genius. Such fine lines. He may need a bit of a lift , himself , after Saturday. Let's hope they can all gee each other up, and get us going for the Plymouth game.. Personally, I'd probably feel a bit short changed if we end up with 3 draws over Weds, Ply'm and Pompey games. Even though it wouldn't be a disaster. I'm hoping for 5 pts, unbeaten and a home win over Pompey. That would be a pretty decent haul for me. With some tricky games ticked off.

We can't moan about referees after every game. This things usually even themselves out over a season. I wasn't at the game on Saturday, but the Wednesday fans were incensed about the referee overall , even though their second goal may have been offside.

A win and a loss in the next wouldn't be a disaster, no, but I feel we could really do with winning one of those, from a psychological point of view.
