It means that costs for German manufacturers - principally as a result of the energy crises - are up by 46% year on year. Hence, either German companies will have to increase their prices hugely, causing inflation, or else their profits will take a big hit.

Yes, many of the raw materials which go into a car are energy intensive to produce - steel, aluminium & plastic, for example.


At the moment it’s quite likely some manufacturers will have to reduce operating hours due to energy rationing. It’s really quite a dire situation.

Reuters were even reporting that some financial institutions might relocate some work from Germany to the City if there are power cuts.
