Indeed, it’s unlikely the markets are too excited about a limited survey, about who might be in power in 2 years time.

Much time for more damage to be done before that!

Pound rises on the back of the prospect of Ipswich Town beating Portsmouth. No less likely than the original post.

Apols. Sense of humour by-pass on the wide left BDS?

I assume you saw those on the right blaming the crash on the prospect of a Starmer government?

Having to explain jokes is no fun.

Indeed, just because 2 events happen at the same time doesn't mean that they are linked in any way. The pound was probably over-sold in the short term so it's a technical bounce as bears close their positions. I very much doubt that the pound will rise on the basis that sterling is seen as more attractive under a Labour government, although that is probably 2 years away anyway.

The thought seems to be that the pound fell as a result of seeing the dimwit Truss trying to enact the first steps of brexit.

What business thinks of Labour can be measured by the number of meetings they have had with Labour - much as with the lead up to the 1997 GE.

I've no doubt that Truss will not give up on her Brexit policies and there is still worse to come, before she is driven from office. I suspect as part of a purge by the sensible (less swivel eyed) grouping within the party. Which I very much doubt will take 2 years. Even two months seems questionable at the moment.

As to the effects of Brexit, it should be noted that the pound was trading at around 1.45 up to June 23rd 2016, and "Britain is the only G7 economy that remains smaller than it was before the pandemic" whereas "the eurozone economy reached 1.8 per cent above 2019 levels in the second quarter".

No combing through the ranks of the sick, disabled and mentally unwell will provide the skilled workers now missing from UK industry. The difficult bit will be in telling the thickos that brexit was NOT about sending Johnny Foreigner home (quite the opposite), and the UK is now going to have to come up with some plan that allows jobs to be filled quickly, and not through the costly and time consuming method now in put place.

But then an awful lot of the thick are slowly waking up to the reality of their actions. Check out farmers and the new ELM scheme. Now likely to be dumped, just as truss is trying to push through deals with AUS/NZ that would undercut UK farmers by allowing them to sell food here that has been produced under lower standards - what a surprise.

Still they are not the only ones, as the supposed 'levelling up' appears to be forgotten, as many said it would.

And the bleat that 'master knows best' does seem to have quietened of late

I would imagine the most likely reason for a rise is those people shorting the currency buying it back after the fall in order to consolidate their gains.

Those in the markets always make money out of it moving. They care nothing for which direction just so long as they were able to predict it right.
