Took in my 4th consecutive Saturday home game yesterday, usual travelling companion was imprisoned over the western side of London, due to train strikes. However due to a WhatsApp group set up by Coastal Blue managed to recruit a car full of passengers who'd otherwise be clients of Greater Anglia. Gents pleasure to meet you all. Best journey up for quite some time, got into Ipswich about 45 mins earlier than antipated. Was encouraged to go to The Greyhound, somewhere I don't think I have been since the 90s for pre-match refreshment. On way into ground whilst opening my eticket I heard a voice say such and at same time someone's foot connect with one of mine, but didn't put these two events together immediately. Had someone had a go at me? I'm pretty thick skinned or simply, thick. But I guess my "crime" was a blue hoody with yellow writing and heading towards Cobbold Stand. Did they think me Pompey? I guess it was not pursued as I didn't react. It was great to be in another 25k+ crowd at PR with seemingly all the restricted view seats in Cobbold sold. Atmosphere veered from everyone around joining in the singing to not even joining the rhythmic clap (not an STD!). In most of the Robson years to get a 28k crowd usually required 6k away fans, yesterday we had that with 2k away fans - well done everyone - keep the faith. Thought it was a very enjoyable game of football, Pompey as the last unbeaten side in the division gave it a go, shame their goals were penalties, but at the same time great they could only score thru a penalty. Harness finish so cool and collected. Superb left side moves for Ladapo and Burns goals. How any defence can give Ladapo that space I don't know, but the man is up and running adding his goalscoring to his tireless work. So pleased for him and the manager. Burns' goal, honestly I thought he'd punched it in. I would have sworn his right hand was beside his head and punched it. Was waiting for a flag or decision from ref, but no goal it was. Having seen highlights, must have been his man bun. Definitely should have worn glasses for the game. Hated the fans dicking about with the ball, too much belief in karma having it in for us. Not to forget, The Curse! It's still lurking; how else do you account for the injuries? Difference being a decent hungry looking squad, subs came on yesterday and had an impact on the game. Drive home they East London was horrendous, the worst since I forgot about a triathlon in E14 a few years back. Highlight yesterday was taking an Argentinean to his first English football match, hope J did enough to hook him in. Sadly looks like next home game probably Oxford on Boxing Day, if I want to avoid a divorce. Though I hope to get 2 away days in before then. COYB! | |
