Can we do it on a cold & rainy Tuesday night… 08:18 - Oct 25 with 961 viewsclive_baker

*near Stoke?

That’s the question on the lips of Town supporters. A couple of notable absentees in the middle of the park, not least the skipper. You could probably make a case for him being MOTM in just about every game this season, he’s been that good. He’s set a standard that we’ve almost complacently come to expect of him week in, week out. Hopefully Ball can step in effectively, and a great opportunity for young Cameron if he is indeed selected in place of Evans. It’s going to be an interesting one that’s for sure.

If it isn't Humphreys, I'm just pondering whether he would put Woolfy in midfield for one game.....

I’ve got absolutely no doubt that this squad of players will not suffer the ‘cold rainy midweek night in Stoke’ syndrome our most recent teams suffered from. This is a group of largely battle hardened, mature players, well used to the rigours of Tuesday night games near Stoke. To me this is a significant development in the team quality over the last 18 months. Credit to Cook for starting the process.

Great game for Humphries to come into, and for Ball to shine and stake his place. I wonder if this could prove to be the start of a proper battle between Evans and Ball for that 2nd m/f slot. Defo Evans to lose, but going 8n to the winter months when pitches start to lose thier quality, Balls battling, shorter passing game could be more effective than Evans long passing game.

Poll: Right now, who would you rather have as Prime Minister?

Ball has also looked far more willing to get forward and break the lines than I would have expected from all the reports of him at QPR about being a deep lying defensive midfielder. Even when he came on Friday with us leading he was still looking at pushing on and getting into advanced positions

Our previous teams over the past 15 years suffered both the “cold Tuesday night in Stoke” and the “warm Saturday afternoon in Ipswich” syndrome unfortunately.

Not to mention the 'overcast and changeable in Grimsby' syndrome...
