Where's that guy in the yellow trainers? 10:13 - Nov 13 with 1602 viewsBroadhill

Isn't he supposed to make the players mentally tough? So they can go about their business on the pitch positively? Time to earn his money. Or a complete waste of money just like that T12 nonsense? We need a couple of mentally tough signings in January, big hairy @rsed guys who can put themselves about. We need to mix it up a bit. We are too one dimensional now and teams are sussing it out.

Whereas he can teach a positive outlook I don’t think he can instruct professional footballers on how to finish - what with him not being that kind of coach.

Do you work in a highly pressurised environment where 20k plus people get irate if things sometimes don’t go to plan? Not sure most work environments compare.

It is quite pressurised yes, it's in the nuclear industry and rules and regulations can be very tough. The people coaches or whatever they call themselves are just baloney. Money for old rope. Didn't see any of that nonsense when Beattie, Wark Mariner played and they did just find. Trouble is they earn a fortune nowadays and are wrapped up in cotton wool.

Maybe if footballers then we’re wrapped in cotton wool they wouldn’t have had to retire a lot earlier than now.

As an aside, I think Robson did bring in an early form of that, during early 79/80 season when we weren’t quite at it, one of the recommendations was a clock in the dressing room as players said they liked to see how long they had for preparation. Then again it might have just helped Brazil, Cooper and Gates get the results from Chepstow before sending someone out to place on the 3.15 at Lingfield.

Someone like that bloke at Blackpool - is it Keogh? Or that midfielder that Cook always went on about .. Mouse, mousey, Morse, or something. If only we could get someone like that you mean?

Yes, that "man up" approach really works in the nuclear industry.....

These "I hate young people" posts about big hairy arsed guys and players being wrapped in cotton wool these days always leave me wondering if they think our opponents have time machines and are smuggling proper blokes back from the 1975.

Kevin Mincher is the guy I believe you are referring to. He doesn't seem to possess any qualifications on the psychology side of things, but works in that sort of capacity as far as I can tell. Honestly, I'm not really sure what he offers to the group professionally, it's almost as if they've hired somebody to be a constant smiley face around the place, all very odd if you ask me, someone that came with Ashton et al from Bristol.
