The futility of war and the resilience of humanity. 19:52 - Dec 15 with 1335 viewsBanksterDebtSlave

If you didn't just see the Ch4 news piece from Donetsk then watch it on +1. Me and Miss Slave are in bits.
Donate to the appeal......every pound will help.

I have to turn over when Ukraine updates are on. Knowing my guys will have friends and family there is too much so I choose to avoid it.

+1 for helping out. We intentionally chose a local charity without the usual over heads / running costs so fingers crossed all the dosh will go where it's intended/needed.

It's incredible both how long it has been going on, and how the people of Ukraine continue to make us all for humble.

When does the appeal close, the TWTD one? I expect I will buy another card, and may well just donate if I can even if I don't.

If all of the users on here were to give just £2 it would equate to a huge sum in the scheme of things, walk outside people, imagine having to live in this without heating or utility supplies, imagine kids and family members having to do the same, surely you can spare a couple of quid to help?

No idea when I began here, was a very long time ago. Previously known as Spirit_of_81. Love cheese, hate the colour of it, this is why it requires some blue in it.

We'lll defo keep the JG page open a week past new year. Expect donations to dry up after xmas week, but we are ok, nearly half way to our target atm.

The charity has a donate button on their website, I have used it successfully so anyone can use that now or in the future should they so wish.

Got a lot of time for John Sweeney

When he started his reporting from Kyiv he was soon arrested by Ukrainian forces thinking he was a spy. He sorted that out and now regularly drinks with the guy that arrested him :-)

I asked a mutual friend (ex BBC colleague of Sweeney) whether Sweeney was "incredibly brave" or "incredibly stupid" - and never really got a clear answer - guess a reporter's bravery is another person's stupidity. Of course without such brave people we would know less of what is happening, so hats off to him.

Whilst the situation in the Ukraine is tragic, let's not forget other conflicts in the world.

Yemen is a case in point where according to the UN, there have been over 377,000 deaths during the conflict. Sadly, the war in Yemen gets virtually no coverage in this country.

So I hope that some of you who donate to Ukraine, would consider also donating to organisations such as Unicef and Medicins Sans Frontiers, particularly given the savage Tory cuts to overseas aid.
