Do we have a specialist finishing coach? 17:21 - Jan 2 with 757 viewsGeoffSentence

If not we could probably do with one rather than a new striker. If you look at who missed the chances today, it was just about everyone, with Morsy, Chaplin and Evans the worst offenders, missing three each.

Maybe that is the problem.

I’m sure he came in and said he would work with our strikers.

Leigh free header...Woolfy hitting the bar.

It really is a simple case of not converting enough of the chances we create.

I think quite a few of our players, including Evans and Morsy, are just not natural goal scorers when a chance arises.

A decent finishing coach could make them better

Those are the chances from the players that all teams miss every match (probably). Some of them will go in over a season.

You don't think about it so much when your strikers can actually play football and score goals.

All our players are playing to their usual numbers. Ladapo was never going to come in and hit 30 goals, he is being the usual Freddie Ladapo. As someone has said, none of them are or ever will be prolific number 9s.

But I think some players just have it naturally, and others don't. Of course, coaching may improve it, but a player like, say, Morsy just doesn't seem to have the physical attributes to cleanly hit a shot.

I've said this before, but there is a correlation between Franny Jeffers being at Town and Bonne being the most confident goal-scorer we had seen since Marcus Stewart, and Jeffers leaving and him having a hit rate more similar to Frank Nouble's time with us.

Now correlation doesn't imply causation, but it is something that I would investigate, and I think that bringing Jeffers in as a specialist finishing coach would be a very cost-effective experiment.
