Has anyone tried Adnams Both Barrels 16:05 - Jan 27 with 1796 viewsgtsb1966

I've got two bottles but they are 9%vol. I begrudge opening one only to tip it down the sink because it tastes like barley wine. Do they taste like Adnams broadside. On the bottle they are described as oak aged broadside. Cheers.

I really enjoyed it.
It sits in Bourbon casks for a few months before it's bottled
If you like Jack Daniels/ Bulleit bourbon you will enjoy it but if whisky like that isn't to your taste then you might want to give it a miss 👍🏻

Thanks for that. Sounding like I won't be impressed unfortunately. At £6 for a 330ml bottle, was a gift so I didn't pay, its an expensive drink to tip away.

I absolutely love Broadside. My favourite beer of all time. Got one on the go now. Ever since I tried it I've never found a beer to match/ better it.

It's nice but it's no triple knot, which sadly they didn't have this year

Wasn't Tally Ho was it? I do rather like that, and at 7% ish, it's not too heavy.

Off topic but I am currently nursing the last of a pint of Porter in Patagonia (hour and a half until I can check into my room) and it is half decent, and the first Porter I have had a chance of since some Earl Soham at FolkEast last year. I did ask for the Brown Ale they have a tap for but it is off. Argentina is very encouraging on the real ale front so far.

I dont recall it tasting much like broadside to be fair, but I havent had it for years, checking my tasting notes (everyone keeps those right ?) I actually felt it was more a supercharged Tally Ho , but that maybe the ABV, you get cherry in it too, which ferments so probably got a Belgian style sour zing to it, with the sweetness of the oak, and bourbon blending well.

I liked it fwiw, but there arent many beers, well maybe except those sickly sweet craft beers that I dont like, but I fear you probaly wont enjoy it much by the sounds of it

My all-time favourite, too.

I grew up in Southwold, and used to walk through the brewery yard to school every day. There was naff all to do in Southwold then, except go to one of 14 pubs, so we all started early. But yes, Broadside is my favourite. Almost chocolately, it is superb to just sip on its own - doesnt need anything to accompany it (perhaps a roaring fire in winter).
A few years back, Adnams also did Adnams Extra - much more like teh Southwold Bitter, but a bit more bitter and around 4.5% ABV. That was terrific, but Broadside beats it.

Don't mind a Broadside but prefer Blackshore stout or even their Old Ale but my all time favourite is Colchester Brewery's Brazilian Coffee and Vanilla stout on draught.

I've thought about this for a long time and have come up with an idea. You could try drinking it to see whether you like it, gtsb.

From the Adnams Website:
BOTH BARRELS
Both Barrels started life as a single barrel of beer. Back in 2010, when we first opened our distillery, we put some bottle-strength Broadside into a bourbon barrel along with some cherries. It was left to age for a year, and we used some for beer festivals, but always topped up the barrel with fresh Broadside. We were effectively using the solera system, which is used to make sherry. Eventually, we took that single barrel and divided its contents between a further twelve. We topped them up with fresh Broadside and added more cherries. After further maturation, we had enough beer to bottle and launched a limited release. Each year, we repeat this process, so there's always a small part of that original barrel in your bottle.
DESCRIPTION
Broadside beer is aged in ex-bourbon barrels over cherries, for this limited-edition release. Each year, the brewing team carefully select and blend beer from our stocks of barrel-aged beer, and then replenish what they've taken with fresh Broadside so maturation can continue. It's Broadside, but not as you know it.
HOW DOES IT TASTE
Broadside is aged in ex-bourbon barrels over cherries, and we annually blend beer from our stocks. This year's batch has more weight and depth than previous releases, but a light acidity lifts it. You'll find cherries, vanilla, oak, and whisky notes alongside Broadside's fruitcake flavours.
Sounds wonderful, perhaps the perfect way to celebrate our progression to the 5th round later.

I' like the sound of it so much I just ordered some. There is a 10% refer a friend offer that came up, so if anyone wants to make an online order pm me and we will both get 10% off.
