Warm Homes Discount - another Tory stroke 09:56 - Mar 25 with 985 views | TalkingBlues | Apologies if we've had this before, but I don't recall seeing it on here. There's a disabled chap that became a frequent guest of my local pub over the winter and I was extremely dismayed to hear that the reason for his regular attendance was purely that he was seeking a warm place to dwell, as he was struggling to afford his energy bills (in case you were wondering, anything he consumes in the pub, is a tab picked up by us, the regulars). NOBODY, anywhere in the Country should be facing this sort of dilemma, those f**king thieving bastards at the energy companies continue to make record profits off peoples suffering, honestly, it boils my blood. It gets worse, this week I was chatting with him and he tells me that he wasn't eligible for the "Warm Home Discount" (which upon investigation, is a means tested payment made to the worst off in society, who are struggling with their bills) as the Government had, for the first time, completely "revamped" the eligibility criteria. In a nutshell, they removed a couple of qualifying benefits that are typically received by those who are disabled and those who are gravely sick. Yep, the "revamp" has taken money away from the the poorest and sickest members of the UK, yet I can't recall seeing this scandalous move splashed over newspapers etc, maybe it has and I've missed it? This has to be one of the most disgusting, despicable moves by this shower of c***s that the run the Country yet, it's fookin appalling. There's no hiding from this, this is a stroke that has been deliberately pulled against the most vulnerable people in the UK, the Government knows who is in receipt of the qualifying benefits they removed from the eligibility. What it also clearly demonstrates, is that the Government are more than capable of focussing their efforts, good or bad, towards a particular section of the population. Why then, has the Government wasted £millions of taxpayer money, handing £400 to millionaires and Billionaires across the UK via the "Energy Support Scheme" something that absolute categorically should have been means tested and given to those worst off? In France, they are on the streets rioting at the suggestion of putting the retirement age up by 2 years, but here we are getting far greater strokes pulled against us regularly and we just bend over and take it with a smile on our face. Honestly, I think it's time the people of the UK said "enough of this sh1t" and followed the lead of the French, something I never thought I'd say, but I personally, I've had a gutful, this and watching that f****ing snake Boris Johnson lying his ar5e off AGAIN to the Country, has just pushed me over the reasonable edge, I feel like I'm just standing by and allowing crimes to unfold against the defenceless and doing nothing about it.

Warm Homes Discount - another Tory stroke on 10:41 - Mar 25 with 901 views | DJR | Well said. Another scandal (of many) is people going into retirement at the whim of landlords. There was a story the other day about a 74 year old who is currently sofa surfing and struggling to find property with an affordable rent, following the termination of her previous tenancy. That just shouldn't be happening in a civilised country.
Warm Homes Discount - another Tory stroke on 10:42 - Mar 25 with 898 views | HARRY10 | I am currently chasing this for someone who had his WHD removed. The reply I received so far is that his home has been re-classified as meeting some 'warm home; standard ..... based on his postcode ! He lives in a bedsit with no double glazing or heating, except an electric fire. I accept there are reason for the rise, cost of gas etc, but cannot see how his standing charge has trebled, for what ? The government are paying the landlord £475 a month for this rathole. It is referred to as a House of Multiple Occupancy (HBO) with five others, all sharing one bath, toilet and kitchen. Which works out at around £2700 a month, being paid for by you. For a crumbing Edwardian house that has long since past it's use. A more sane society would use that money to built housing to a decent standard and after around 10 years would own the property and not have parasites (landlords) leeching off the state. This is the end result, whereby people are simply regarded as something to be ''farmed'. Money made from exploiting them. Have look at recent reports of the money being made from Care Homes. Spend money fixing potholes, treating sewage, repairing schools and hospitals ? No. Moneyis leached out by privatising/selling off everything so the standards are set by the private sector (see Tufton Street, elsewhere) This is facilitated by thickos b=swallowing obvious lies, that once you scratch the surface state that you thickos, will be better off under us because we will make the real poor, the disadvantaged and the sick even poorer, meaning the gap between them and you is even greater. How does a 5ft man get taller than his neighbour ? Amputate his neighbours legs, that's how. And that is what is being done. And millions vited for it.
Warm Homes Discount - another Tory stroke on 10:50 - Mar 25 with 876 views | EdwardStone | I agree wholeheartedly with the thrust of your post and the fact that it is heartbreaking that we have ended up in this mess However, benefits, like taxes, can either be fair or they can be simple.... but they cannot be both. For them to be fair, they require an amount of administration to make sure the whole benefit reaches those most in need and this admin costs money. On the other hand... a benefit applied universally is quick to roll out and relatively cheap to administer. I don't know the specifics of the change in criterea for the "Warm Homes" , it sounds like the usual penny-pinching narrow-mindedness of our current Govt. Big respect to you and your fellow drinkers for helping out.

Actually the amount of administration required here was increased. This chap was in receipt of the payment. So how have some had it removed while others have not. His qualification criteria has not changed, but the 'rules' have, with no notice. As the payment is made sometime between the autumn and Feb, there was no need to be concerned that the money had not been paid It was in the first week of March that he asked me if I could check, as he had allowed £10 a week * extra in heating/cooking believing the money would come through. it is because he is not the most capable that he not only cannot sort this out, but is the reason he has slowly fallen to this level, There are many helpers at this Church hall doing their bit. I give a lift when I can, and offer advice on a sort of Citizen's Advice basis. Not Pannicks £5000 an hour but usually just helping fill out forms. Nothing more than a few hours a week. But what I have learnt is what I, and I expect most on here take in our stride, can be daunting and a struggle for some. Many can only cope with the barest of responsibilities so end up on the street. If your leg is broken we fix it, but if your mind is broken, or does not function too well there is often nothing, no help. Each little slide is small, so much so that it is not noticed. Fore all the help so many give, there is still a mind set that sees this as an aberration. A blip, rather than the inevitable consequence of a long drive t reduce the cost of looking after those at the 'bottom'. The problem now is seeing so many tumbling into this level. Their position on the beach has not changed. The high water level has - so they get now soaked every 12 hours. That is the best analogy I can give. But hey ho, Spring is here and the worst is over, hopefully. Seven months reprieve until it starts again. * £7 a week as over £3 is paid in standing charges
